Isaiah 2:22 Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It means that you should not trust man, a man who is of this world and full of sin.... he is vulnerable to sin and death therefore has no value above yourself. It means that we should accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour because through Him we may come to know God. Things of this world are of no value when compared to that of heavenly things.
Try using a different version, such as "the message". It interprets it as
"A Message concerning the Valley of Vision:
What's going on here anyway?
All this partying and noisemaking,
Shouting and cheering in the streets,
the city noisy with celebrations!
You have no brave soldiers to honor,
no combat heroes to be proud of.
Your leaders were all cowards,
captured without even lifting a sword,
A country of cowards
captured escaping the battle." (22:1-3)
It is good to consider the verses prior to verse 22. In preceeding verses, the prophet Isaiah explains how God's chosen people put their trust in other humans and lifeless idols. But when it was time for God's judgment, He clearly demonstrated his disgust of the actions of his people. Their worthless idols or their leaders couldn't save them from the then mighty king Nebuchadnezzar from Babylon.
So verse 22 reminded the ancient Israelites - as much as it reminds us today - to avoid worshiping other humans or hand-made idols, but rather to look to God and praise Him, because we still have the great judgment day in front of us!
Who is earthling man that could save us from God's judgment?
Man is like the air that goes out of their noses. Once again they were trusting in man and should have been trusting in the Messiah. Good reference Swaggart.com. He has an expositor's Bible on sale now and it is very good. Dirt cheap, has some kind of defect that you cannot see. Take care.
Stop trusting in the power of people because they are useless but think more highly of themselves than they ought. Trust only in the power of Almighty-God.
