Catholics are Christians, among the oldest in the world - they are the church of St Peter! Most of those who try to say that Catholics aren't Christian are the ones who secretly know that their own religion is based around questionable origins - such as a king wanting to divorce his wife or a pastor rip off his flock - and it burns them up. So they rant about the Catholcs, hoping that no one will notice that their version of Christianity is a sham with no credibility.

Roman Catholicism is a Christian denomination. The name "Catholic Church" originated in 107 AD when Ignatius of Antioch used the phrase to describe Jesus' "Church.

Catholics adhere to the teachings of Jesus Christ who founded this Church. Acts 11,26 defines Christian an "adherent" of Christ. The word Catholic simply means the larger or universal church. The early church fathers were the first to use it. For example the epistles of James, Peter, John and Jude are referred to as the Catholic Epistles. So when we say the Catholic Church, we mean the universal Christian Church.

Anti-Catholics often suggest that Catholicism did not exist prior to the Edict of Milan, which was issued in 313 AD and made Christianity legal in the Roman Empire. With this, pagan influences began to contaminate the previously untainted Christian Church. In no time, various inventions adopted from paganism began to replace the gospel that had been once for all delivered to the saints. At least, that is the theory.

This accusation does not hold water because Jesus Christ promised to guide his Church till the end of the age.

"And so I tell you. Peter; you are a rock, and on this rock foundation I will build my church, and not even death will ever be able to overcome it. I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven; what you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven and what you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven." - Matthew 16,18-20

"And teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age." - Matthew 28,20

"I have told you this while I am still with you, The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you". - John 14, 25

"When, however, the Spirit comes who reveals the truth about God, he will LEAD YOU INTO ALL TRUTH." - John 16,13

After making the above promises are you now saying that Jesus cannot be relied upon to keep his word?

Pagan Influence Fallacy

Opponents of the Church often attempt to discredit Catholicism by attempting to show similarities between it and the beliefs or practices of ancient paganism.

Ultimately, all attempts to prove Catholicism "pagan" fail. Catholic doctrines are neither borrowed from the mystery religions nor introduced from pagans after the conversion of Constantine. To make a charge of paganism stick, one must be able to show more than a similarity between something in the Church and something in the non-Christian world. One must be able to demonstrate a legitimate connection between the two, showing clearly that one is a result of the other, and that there is something wrong with the non-Christian item.

In the final analysis, nobody has been able to prove these things regarding a doctrine of the Catholic faith, or even its officially authorized practices. The charge of paganism just doesn’t work.

The Bible for one. They are Pagan with their practices of the Rosary that Jesus Condemned. they celebrate Pagan Holidays dressed up in "Sacred names" they even venerate pagan Deities, for one St. Brigid is the same as the Celtic goddess Brigid. They place Mary and saints above Jesus. if you doubt that next time you recite your rosary (borrowed from the Hindu Prayer beads) count the number of times Mary is mentioned and the number God or Jesus is mentioned it is 10 times for Mary for each 1 for Jesus. Catholics are a Pagan cult.Their altar is taken from the Celts as is their concept of Trinity. Even the New Catholic Encyclopedia states that the Trinity is NOT BIBLICAL. That which is not Biblical is of questionable status. They venerate statues but the Bible forbids that. They forbid their Bishops to be married but the Bible says a Bishop should be the Husband of one wife, and have his house in order, or how shall he tend to the things of God. On that topic let me also mention that Christians believe the words of Jesus that if ANYONE causes a child to stumble it would be better for them that a Millstone were hanged around their neck and they be cast into the sea. Guess the Child Molesting Priests did not read that, nor the Pope for that matter. When a Priest is accused of Child Molesting he is quickly transferred to another Parish. But in the end he will indeed PERISH. Also there is no Purgatory it is taken from the Belief of the Roman Pagans that the Work of Jesus on the Cross was not enough for the salvation of mankind, even though Jesus had states that it was, and the Apostles confirmed that. Sorry but the Catholics are Catholic not Christian.

not me...as a matter of fact, i don't believe that being a catholic, or a baptist, or methodist, or lutheran, or any denomination, has any bearing on whether or not a person is a Christian...only Christ offers salvation-a church cannot!

Look at what Jesus said about some claiming to obey him.
(Matthew 7:21-23) “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness.

This is aimed directly at those who CLAIM to be Christian.
