It was explained to me by a meteorologist colleague that one of the basic axioms of meteorological science is that extreme weather events are driven by the temperature difference between the equator and the poles.
Since the poles heat up and cool down faster than the equator, this temperature difference is smaller when the climate is warmer, and therefore produce fewer extreme weather events and a more stable climate.
You hear all over the media from journalists and political activists that global warming will cause more extreme weather, but no scientist with meteorological training would spout such nonsense

The Leftist doom & gloom crowd is pushing a panic by claiming a disaster is coming. Climate change is natural and Man has only the tiniest effect on it.
At the end of the last Ice Age, about 10.500 years ago vast amounts of ice melted as the Earth warmed to temperatures much warmer than today. Sea levels rose. People living in coastal areas worldwide would have had to walk inland, abandoning their villages to the waves. There was no disaster then and the change was greater. For 7,500 years it stayed warm then the climate cooled. It warmed again even higher than today around 800-1200 when the Vikings were able to grow wheat in Greenland and establish colonies there. Then came the medieval Little Ice Age when the Baltic froze over in winter for a couple of centuries and glaciers crushed Alpine villages. That ended in 1815 with snow in every month of the year and the Earth has continued to warm since then.
Man had nothing to do with any previous warmings and nature and the Sun caused them. The present warming started long before the Industrial Age and one big volcanic eruption puts out more greenhouse gasses than Man. To an environmental extremist any change equals damage. but the entire history of the Earth has been one of change, therefore environmental extremists are opposed to Nature, because Nature means change which they see as damage.
They oppose a dam because it will damage the environment, when all it does is change the environment. Some fish won't live in the new lake while other fish will multiply. Climate change is the same as it has always been, some species will suffer and some will thrive.
Check the plants and animals which used to grow in Northern Canada, Siberia and North Africa about 1200 years ago during the last warm period and also about 8000 years ago. Those areas had much more life then. And since storms are dependent on variations in temperature between the tropics and the poles, some warming of the poles would lessen storms as the whole planet warmed.
It is a big con pushed by Leftists to gain power and get tax money to buy votes. Since we cannot stop Climate Change, even by destroying our technological civilisation with CO2 bans and heavy taxes, it would make more sense to protect what coastal areas we can and need to and just abandon those we cannot. And we cannot pay people for property lost to nature, those along the present coasts may take a big loss but those who live on the new shorelines will make a big profit. Change hurts some and helps others. Change is neither bad or good, it is just change.
Now the True Believers here will label me a denier, simply because I think Climate Change is 99.06% natural, as it has always been. They will call opposing scientists names, adjust the facts to fit their theories, deride the opposition, accuse them of dishonesty, of being bought, prevent them from publishing, getting research money or having jobs, anything to discredit them. Which are the same tactics used by Leftist politicians against their opponents and which tells me that this is a big con job.

Big con. Nature goes in cycles and man is unable to do a thing, good or bad, about it. I mean, the Romans were growing grapes up north and mankind didn't get cooked. Krakotoa alone has already yielded more CO2 and other pollution than all the industries, transport etc since the Industrial Revolution put together.
Its well known in the scientific world that CO2 follows changes of temperature, it does not cause it. There is so much hard evidence that does not make dramatic media consumption so is not explained in the public domain.
Scaremongering and excuses to tax the life out of us all is what its about - all vested interests!

It's the real deal, despite the claims of some individuals. Look at the evidence, look at the science and look for yourself at how the planet is changing. Go to Glacier National Park and you'll see that where, not so long back, there were 150 glaciers there's now just 4, soon the park will need to be renamed.
Some people don't like the idea of global warming but that doesn't mean it's a hoax. It' here, has been for 200 years and will be until we're in a position to do something about it

it's a big lie. these "experts" are no more than snake oil salesman trying to find a product that appeals to the masses.
here are some of the predictions i grew up with over the past 40 years:
famine
mass death
shifting of food production regions
climate change
overpopulation
global cooling
mass starvation
massive glaciers
uninhabitable places on earth
running out of fossil fuel
pollution physically altering man (through adaptation)
all this was supposed to happen by the year 2000, and if man didn't stop using fossil fuels. we had 30+ years of "irrefutable data" showing that man was causing it too.
but we didn't stop,. instead, we used more!
STRANGELY, NOT ONE PREDICTION HAS CAME TRUE YET!
with this kind of track record, how can anyone seriously "believe" global warming?

We've been watching it happen for at least the past 30 years, but it has all-of-a-sudden become a big issue, since we're now also at peak-oil.

We know, our current abuse of the environment is not sustainable for many reasons, but hyper hysterical behavior, without objective discussions won't help.
