Are they healthy?

Are they high in calories or are they fattening in any way?

Please include sources if possible.

Thanks.

One ounce of walnuts (14 halves) has 185 calories, 4.3 grams of protein, and 18.5 grams of fat. People on low-calorie diets tend to avoid them because they are high in fats and calories, but they are really good for you. They contain some essential fatty acids you need in your diet.

I am including a link to the USDA nutrition database, which will give you more informtion than you ever thought was available on the nutrition content of foods. When you get there, just put "walnuts" (or any food) in the search box and go.

All nuts are high in calories. 100 gms or 4 ozs of nuts in general contain 600 to 750 calories so in large amounts they are very fattening. The rule of thumb is never eat more than 2 ozs or 50 gms of nuts a day. They are good for you in small servings because they are rich in minerals such as magnesium and iron and a few others but consuming them in large amounts will put on the weight.
