I have been fighting a cold for a few days, but instead of having a fever, I'm finding that my temperature is quite low (between 94.2F- 96.5F). This is usally what happens when I get sick, but it's not usually this low. Should I be concerned? And is it bad to have such a low temperature?

Most of my life, when i was sick and i`d take my tempurature,I would never have one.Same with my son.I`d feel like i was dying, but no fever. This is a symptom of hypothyroidism.Check out Mary Shomon`s yahoo group called thyroid. If you have been tested for this before, and the tests were in the normal range, the tests are innaccurate,Most, only test TSH,and not FT3 and FT4,which really tells the story.

If it's a true temperature, it should be checked out by the doctor. Could suggest a number of bad things like hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, sepsis, hypoglycemia, etc.

Most likely it's a false reading - try it with a different thermometer and make sure you've got it in your mouth for long enough. Also make sure you haven't taken anything by mouth for 15 minutes prior to the reading - a sip of water can easily cool the surface of the mouth down enough to give you this sort of reading.

This sounds like hypothermia. As you may know the normal body temperature is 37 degrees C OR 98.4 degrees F.

Depends on your age and general health, diet, exercise etc.

I would definitely see your doctor (seems like you may not have kept the thermometer in place long enough possibly? Very low temp indeed (very unusual!).

How are you taking your temperature? It sounds to me like it is most likely an incorrect temperature. Especially if you are taking a tympanic temperature (with an ear thermometer). When taking a tympanic temperature, the thermometer must be placed in the outer ear canal, and the ear canal must be straightened in order to get an accurate temperature. It is not normal for a body temperature to be that low.
