It seems to me that atheists are often the byproduct of scorned devotees that were 'wronged' by crisis of faith, such as 'why do bad things happen to good people'.
Given the amount of scientists in upper level research positions, globally, who still allow room for God to exist in their personal lives even when the profession they practice does not explain or allow for such beings to exist; it's fair to say that the science dependent atheists have attatched themselves to a senseless system of reason (which is a philosophy, not a fact) because it makes them feel confident in having answers that others lack.
I would say for every zealot who is passionate without foundation in their believes, there is an atheist who is arrogant in their presumed conclusiveness of how the universe works.

Personally i dont need to exhaust any possibilities because i dont think supernatural events are possible. Religion isnt like getting an abortion, you dont run thru a list of options, you either believe or you dont. How is not taking a book of fables to be the factual end all be all of everything make anyone defiant? I think it just make us not gullible and not easily herded. Not your fault really, youve been told these things since birth from people you trust. But if you are at an age to make your own decisions you should really start questioning the bible and all the hocus pocus associated with it, it doesnt say what your parents and preachers say it does 90% of the time. Why would anyone waste time trying to find something they dont believe exists? Did you really try to find the tooth fairy after you found out it was a lie? What if it was just some non believer that told you that and she really exists?

I looked at all the religions I could think of, and found most to be completely ridiculous. The ones I thought might have something turned out, on closer inspection, to be nothing more than a small group of control freaks taking charge of a whole bunch of muppets.
In the end I reluctantly concluded that there is no God.

What a stupid question.
Next thing you'll be suggesting that ALL theists believe in the same 'god' and ALL theists believe in the same way to worship 'him' and ALL theists believe in ...
I wonder if you had the brain stem to understand that generalisations are silly.
As an atheist I am STILL allowing for 'god' to show me he exists but I'm not holding my breath cos there's NO evidence anywhere that the bible-god exists other than in bible.
BUT that's just me; I can't and won't speak for other atheists.
The only thing atheists agree on is that 'gods' don't exist - they're no more than a figment of a warped, needy, whiny and immature imagination.
BUT, that's just me.
I come here to get my comedy cos I have to laugh - it's good for me.
Thank YOU!

No, I have yet to try Buddhism. However my interest in Buddhism is more for its philosophic benefit then its spiritual reward. If god existed and we were his children then he would reveal himself to us. When he does, and explains how foolish the christians and muslims have been, revealing that his name is in fact Zeus/Jupiter/Amen-Ra, that hell does not exist and your foolish to believe a benevolent god would create a place like that for his creations, and express his supreme apology for taking 2,000 years off to run the Universe because he thought that with men like Caesar, Augustus, Cicero, walking the planet, SOcrates, Plato, and Aristotle walking just prior that he could place his attention elsewhere and didn't think we would screw it all up, but should have seen it coming, and that atheists were going to rule the afterworld because we were the only ones smart enough not to get sucked in to a bunch of BS... then I'll see you on Sunday!

Do theists really try to find the correct spelling for 'atheists'?...I mean have they really exhausted ALL possible dictionaries and clues before concluding, or, did they just get pissed off and quit?

in some cases its because they have never heard of God and in some its because they are so brainwashed at school etc that we evolved from a spec of dust. this is why we need to "go into all the world and make disciples of all men". for some of us that can be going on a missions trip and to some it could be talking to a friend at school/work. People see what we do when we are a christian and as such we should let them see God in ever thing we do. Trust me this can be very hard at times but we need to try our best and ask God to help us to share His word and stop people turning away from Him.

No, I explored other religions quite thoroughly. I got pretty far down into the minor religions, before I realized something...
ALL religions believe SOMETHING that is inherently irrational and unproven. Most have a god, but some, like Buddhism, have other thigns like reincarnation, etc.
Plus, rituals really creep me out. I feel like I'm at a cult ceremony (oh wait, I am!).
And when you get right down to it, I think believing in something with a total lack of reason to do so is stupid.
So no religion for me.

Speaking for myself, I can say that in my experience, I didn't have to try to find God; my parents were more than happy to "introduce" me to their religion.
When I asked questions to learn the Truth about God it was an entirely different story.
NOBODY had any Knowledge to share, only beliefs.
For some reason, I was unable to accept their beliefs as being Knowledge.

Atheists strongly believe there is NO God, so of course they are not looking to find God. They have not exhausted many religious beliefs, some are not quitters, some are not defiant. Just like all religions, some come to this lack of faith naturally.

We applied logic and common sense and reached the conclusion that the total absence of evidence of any kind of god whatsoever means there are, indeed, no gods. For you obviously math- and logic-challenged types, check up on deductive logic. One does not have to investigate each and every possibility to reach a conclusion.
Besides, all you would have to do to show us the error of our ways is to present one - just one - piece of evidence for such a being. Hasn't happened, yet, and I am betting it never will.
Do you like spouting nonsense just because it makes you feel intellectual?
