IBS can be be serious. DO NOT take the Fiber as some have said without a doctors precription. IBS is bad enough without throwing unregulated fiber in the mix. There are other options. Medications, change of diet and lifestlyles are some of the bigger changes as well as proper health care. Believe it or not, Hypnosis works well with a moderate program of IBS therapy. Inproper care of IBS can lead to bowel surgery and it may happen any way. See a Dr, for best your best health. A gastro physician would be best.

Butterfly,
I also have fibromyalgia, and deal with the same issues from time to time. What works for me is to be sure to eat seven servings a day from the fruit and vegetable groups. Also drink lots of water, all the time. A book that will tell you lots about how to eat for this problem is "Fit or Fat" by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. It's been around since at least 1985, so you could buy it on line for a song. A website you might want to hear about is:
http://www.fma.org
An over the counter medicine you might want to know about is: 024 Fibromyalgia by SwissMedica. It helps with the pain.

IF you have Fibromyalgia and IBS and are constipated you need to call your Gastroenterologist and ask him/her what they want you to do about the opioids causing your constipation. Listen to YOUR DOCTOR...or you could end up with a bowel obstruction and surgery. Nurses are not allowed to diagnose, esp online....it's called practicing medicine without a license...and their license can be taken away for doing it.

Following a careful diet --specifically for your problem/s-- might help immensely. You need to figure out what is triggering the episodes. I'm including links to some promising Web sites:

Probiotics have been shown to help. They are nothing more than good bacteria like you would get from yogurt. If you can't stomach yogurt there are also suppliments you could buy.

Try a web search for "irritable bowel syndrome" + "natural remedies".
