I don't hail from any religion in particular, but they all interest me. I was in a hotel and picked up a bible and it was written that god imprisoned satan for being evil, i guess. It seemed strange to me that god would imprison him for such a short time and let him out to run a muck again. Any thoughts from our christian section?

I don't recall the Bible mentioning Satan ruling for "a thousand years" and without my reference books available I can only give you a broad idea of what was meant. I pray someone with dates will help clear things up. Jerusalam was cocidered the seat of God (1 Chronicals 29:23) Because of the wickedness of those who were supose to represent Jehovah, the kings and priest in Jerusalam. Jah decided to destroy that seat. So in 607 BCE Babylon distroyed the seat of God's rule and thus started the ' Times of the Gentiles' or 'The Appointed Times of the Nations' Nebuchadnezzer's dream of the image in Danial 2:31-45 is prophesy concerning the forcoming rulers of the earth. Medo-Persian after Babylon Alexader the Great and Greek rule is in there and Rome is the iron part because of it's harsh and oppresive way.(And that's not concidering all that intregue among to royals.I believe the Ceasers are where we get soap operas from!) In Daniel ch.8, there are desriptions of the characteristic of the rulers that will be coming. The two horned ram is the Medio-Persian government. The hairy he goat is Alexander the great who died early in his conquest of the world and had his kingdom devided amongst four of his generals.Danial 9:24-27 is important because it talks about seventy weeks. If you calculate a year for a day (Numbers 14: 34) starting from the completion of the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalam, you should come up with the year Christ will take over His rulership of the nations. Please keep in mind that the first thing Jesus does after He becomes king is to kick Satan and his demons out of heaven and around the vecinity of the earth. (Rev.12:7-12 Please notice that it mentions that Satan is mad because he knows he has a short time to rule. So Jesus' ruling in heaven does not mark the end of sin or the abyssing of Satan and the demons. Please read Act1:10,11. What was ment here is not everyone would notice when Jesus would be back. Not everyone saw Him leave. Only those who were looking saw Him go. Only those who are looking will see His return. I learned all this from some Jehovah's Witnesses. (Please excuse my spelling mistaks. My 'spell check doesn't work if I type more than five sentences!).

It is to rid humanity of all excuses before the end.

It is written that after the thousand years have ended, Satan will still obtain a following. These are now without excuse for their actions.

Rev 20:

7When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.

2 Peter 3:8

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

The Bible was written by men, just ordinary men, and Satan was conjured up to scare little children and keep the newly brainwashed Pagans from going back to "the old ways"...
The 1,000 year figure was probably used because the person responsible for that part of the writing, could only count that far, if he was lucky...

How can satan take the blame for evil if he is imprisoned every thousand years does he get out on the work release program or just volunteers for roadside chain gang duty?
In the beginning god created his cake and ate it too.

Your question should actually be, When will God destroy satan? God has allowed for satan to be here to serve God's purpose and that is the only reason why satan is still roaming free. Satan knows he has but a short time left and he is looking fo souls to devour.

Revelations 12:12
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

If you have not accepted Jesus into your heart, ask sincerely for forgivness for your sins and repent of your mistakes, and please do it today. Thank you, I am looking foward to seeing you in Heaven with our Lord Jesus. God Bless all his children.

In Christ,

Satan hasn't been imprisoned yet. He will be for 1000 years (it's known to some as the millenium).

Because Christianity is a heroic faith that is ultimately strengthened by persecution, and by contending with evil.

I think you misunderstood the passage. In reality, every 1000 years satan has a chance to be free and we have to send him back to hell. That doesn't mean that he is free.

That is still a future event. He will release him to make a final point and then after that he is thrown in the lake of fire.
