How old is the cat? Have you taken him/her to the vet lately? Does it have foul smelling breath? Bad teeth will make animals drool, but you usually notice that they don't eat dry food either. Take your kitty to the doctor, it could be a problem with the mouth or nervous system.

HI

Cats tend to drool when they get older, and sometimes not even that old. I like to refer to it as "Leaky Gaskets"

One of my 4 cats is about 6 - 8 yrs old does this, I rescued him so am not sure, But I have seen this in cats before, and it is just old age.

My cat usually drools when I am givin him lovin and scratches. He also gets purring so hard he often chokes up a hairball.

I don't think you need to worry it's just something they do when they get older.

I noticed the first comment and would agree that maybe it is because of their teeth as my cat has bad breath too.

It can be very expensive to have them cleaned and/or pulled so be prepared for that. I live in Canada and just spent over 300.00 for my dogs teeth to be cleaned and pulled, I can just imagine that cats are more expensive as they usually are. I have 4 cats and thankfully haven't had to have any teeth done on them yet....

Cats can drool for various reasons. I had one that drooled when she was afraid (like when she went to the vet), and I have one now that starts drooling when he is really happy. One of my cats developed dental problems and I noticed them when she started to drool. She looked so sad and unhappy. I think a trip to the vet to get a definite diagnosis would be best.

One of my cats has drooled since the day I got him. He only does it when he's really happy and he's purring. The happier he is the more he drools.
Good luck!

not much background here, but I'll give it my best shot. I have 2 cats, when they purr....they drool. It really isn't a crisis. Nothing to warrant a run to the vet. but again, you didn't say much about the background

If the drooling is spontaneous and continuous, get him to a vet for a check-up. If he drools when he is purring uncontrollably, get him a napkin.

You should take your cat to the vet. Could it have gotten into something poisonous? Cleanser, detergents, plants? This could be very serious.

sometimes they drool if there is a bad taste in their mouth (they can't spit) it could be anything from something they have eating to a rotten tooth.
