Yes, i was very respectful and nice to him and he showed that back to me. I thanked him more than once, and told him to have a good evening.

Ive seen people mention the law about South carolina, etc.
How would this law apply to Illinois?

No, the cop was being nice to you. They do not have a system to keep track of warnings.

I may be wrong but, so far as I'm aware, there is no specific offence of writing 'police' on the side of a vehicle. However, it is an offence to impersonate a constable "with intent to deceive", or to do "any act calculated falsely to suggest that he is such" (s.90(1) Police Act 1996). It is also illegal to install blue lights on a vehicle, though I cannot cite you the relevant statute (it may be the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989). If it is obvious that your car is not a real police car, and that aren't trying to trick people into believing otherwise, I can't see how you could be convicted. That said, you might get sent down for poor taste ;-)

They don't have a system to keep track of warnings...? Don't know where that prosecutor works at, but they do have such systems in many other places. Mostly for city or county, not often statewide. If you get pulled over for the same offense again, they can check to see if you've already had a warning within the past year. If so, you've used up your second chance. They could still write another warning, but less likely.

It is exactly that... a warning. It means that the officer chose not to write you a citation costing you money and possibly points on your drivers license.
In South Carolina it is now mandated that when making contact with a traffic violater you must either cite the driver or give them a written warning. It is a way to keep statistical data of all public contact.
I hope you thanked the nice officer for not writing you a citation.

Actually Copgirl is wrong.
When an officer gives a vehicle or person a written warning, they annotate in the call that is in their CAD system. They close out the call as one written warning issued. Your info is in that call.
Therefore, when you get pulled over again, any officer from that agency can see that information if they simply search for your priors in their CAD system.
Not every officer is gonna do that, but it is in fact annotated and is searchable for anyone in that agency.

In most stations, officers bring the warnings to there supivisor. As, the supivisor will put it on your record, so if they pull you over again then they will have it on record. Be safe, and FOLLOW the law. Also, a police warning doesn't really matter to you, it just goes on your record and if you do it again the ticket will be a higher price as they have already given you a warning.
Have a good day!

If you are pulled over again by that same agency, they can look it up in their system and see you got a warning before. Not a big deal really.
