Aiden, for colds and some flu, over the counter meds are all there is. Alas!

One thing I have found that is great is a tea called "Throat Coat." It really helps the sore throat, and actually tastes good. That's a big statement because I cannot stand tea. You find it in health food stores or the health food isle of grocery stores.

Tylenol is helpful for the headache, if you can take it. I hope you feel better soon.

You probably have dried out your sinuses. Low humidity also creates a throbbing headache. You might want to increase your intake of warm fluids. Hot tea with lemon and honey is good for a sore throat. Ice cold drinks can bother a headache.Use a saline solution to moisturize your sinuses. Breathe steam, Gargle with salt water. Use a throat spray if you are going to lay down. Contact a pharmacist before using more medicines. Linda

I'm sorry you are not feeling alright. For the head, if you've got allergies, you may only be able to take Tylenol. If not, you can probably take Aspirine, Ibuprofen or Motrin (And if they have the cold versions of them, it's better!) Make sure you read the labels of what you are taking because it's not good for your liver to take something for your head and then take something for the cold/flue that already has something for the head!

About your throat, there is this tea that works called THROAT COAT and this is what it looks like http://www.singercity.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=throatcoat&Category_Code=tea I'm sure you can get it at Whole foods or any store that sells herbal teas. I have taken it a couple of times (I hate tea) but it has helped me out.

You can use those Vick's Formula 44 Sore Throat, which comes in spray version or lonzenges too look: http://www.vicks.com/5.1_Vicks_44.php

The spray numbs your throat, I personally don't like the feeling because it feels like you have something weird in your throat, but you may like that better than pain.

I hope you feel better and I hope this helps you out.

Gargle with soluble aspirin in warm water for the throat. Drink plenty and lie down for the head. If the throat doesn't get better in 2 - 3 days go to the Dr's.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of clear fluids and if you can tolerate ibuprofen, take that for the throat pain and headache. You can safely take 800 mg three times a day for an acute illness - that's the same dose as the prescription strenght of Motrin.

I would still go to the doctor because even if the coughing up blood thing has stopped..there is still that possibilty that it wll happen again and coughing up blood isnt good. I coughed up blood before and i went to the doctor and found out that i had acid reflux.
