Ok, I was just now walking to the store, it's 1 in the morning but yeah, anyway, I saw this average-size dog laying at the end of the alley. (Not in the alley way, it was in the grass). And he looked like he was dying. I mean, it seemed like he couldn't move his body at all except for his head. He just laid there and didn't move at all, and I was even petting him and stuff. On the way back, he was still in the same spot. What should I have done? I hated just leaving him there, but I don't know what to do at 1 in the morning.

And I didn't wanna carry him home because:

1) It's a distance away from my home
2) If some of his bones were possibly broken, I wouldn't wanna mess them up any more than they are, know what I mean?

You could have called the police - in NZ they are animal welfare officers under the animal welfare act 1996 and have to act. You could have called any vet an after hours one would have to attend the dog under the humane act. It doesn't matter what time it is. That is a life laying there and if it let you touch it, it was going to let you help it. What ever you do. - Never Do nothing.

Please, please, enlist help from somewhere.
Like the above answers said,... or go to nearest fire hall and surely a fireman there would be animal compassionate and help.

If worse comes to worse, somehow make a hammock put him in a wagon or something (if you don't have a vehicle) and get him somewhere of comfort.
Stay with the poor helpless critter, he must be so scared, lonely ,.. give some comfort.
Don't know where you are, but there must be some 24 hr. service,.. animal emerg,. of police, fire, etc.

You did the right thing in not moving him. Could you call an emergency clinic and see if they could come pick him up? Some clinics have ambulances now...or try the humane society, they should have an emergeny number that you can call.

Please don't leave him there all night by himself...I know that is asking alot...
