Wouldnt you have doubts about it, when you consider than if you had been brought up in a different country, you would be pushed into adopting the accepted faith there? It might be all that you know. For example, children being taught that memorizing the Koran is the most worthwhile activity they are capable of.

Its not like a child is educated about all the major religions and then makes a choice. The choice is made for them by their cultural environment.

Does this unsettle a religious person? I can imagine if I was religious I would find it hard to grapple with this idea.

Many would have thoughts about it, at least, if they reach that stage of cultural (and self) awareness.

But all the evidence is that the majority do not and that, for all the exceptions, remaining embedded in the local cultural norm is what is to be expected.
This isn't just a faith issue: it extends to forms of politics, consumption, views of history...
Stepping away from the crowd isn't easy. And if the crowd is sure it's right and has ways, subtle and not so subtle of expressing disapproval of those who dissent, there is reinforcement of "belonging".

The faith of the culture in which a person grows up in is only a platform on which they may not necessarily remain. It may be attractive for someone to be offered no basis to any religious beliefs in order for one to make up ones, mind. The fact is that the world does not work that way; we stand on the shoulders of giants in all sorts of knowledge and human experience; religion is one particular area and it serves its purpose. Human ideas are continually being refined and what you see in the world today is only a part of the dynamics.

Exactly. You're starting to use your head properly. Its questions like these that prove what garbage all of that "religious psychosis" really is. The best thing to do is run away(within your mind of course) from anything resembling organized religion.
