Yes, you are saved by the grace of God, not by your short comings.
Maybe this can help you understand the trinity.
Think of water. Now if we pretend that God is Water,
Jesus is Ice and the holy Spirit is steam.
Steam, Ice and Water are all the same but different forms of the same source.
We are part of God because we have his Spirit fragment in us.
Jesus was the first son of God. When the son came to earth, he incarnated into Jesus. Now that Jesus has ascended back to heaven, the holy Spirit is with us to comfort us until he comes back physically. You cannot see the Holy Spirit of God but he is here with you if you can except that.
Jesus said he was going to prepare a place for us and would send a comforter.
But the Spirit of God is three in one and always has been since the beginning.

I guess it depends on how you want this question answered there are three parts to my answer (pleaqse don't give up because of #2):

Firstly, I'm assuming that you are a bible-focused Christian, and have a faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. If you are not then
a) from the Christian point of view you have bigger problems than the trinity and
b) from your point of view there are other paths to salvation so who cares about the trinity (crude generalisation, but I hope you get what I mean)

Secondly, if you are asking whether you need to UNDERSTAND the trinity - Noone understands it, it is a non-logical issue. It is never taught in one single sentance in the Bible, but the Bible teaches it fairly clearly as such:
The one Jesus calls Father is God
Jesus is God
The Holy Spirit is God
God is one
There are relationships between each of the three (so in some ways they are different)
They are all the one God (so in some ways they are the same)

No logical system has managed to put these together, so the only way to deal with it is to either ignore some parts of the Bible, or decide that God is more complex than human logic is able to express.

Thirdly, if you are asking whether you need to ACCEPT that the trinity is true (whether or not you UNDERSTAND it):
This question is very tough (and one I am planning my masters paper on). The Old testament says that salvationis found in a right relationship with God. The New Testament says that salvation is found in a right relationship with Jesus, and also that Jesus is God.
Can you be in a right relationship with Jesus without accepting that he is God? That's the most tricky bit, and will take an entire master's to work through.

So, I think that the only time that I did not answer your question is if you believe that you are in a right relationship with Jesus, but you do not believe that he was God. Otherwise, hopefully the answer to your question is somewhere in this little ramble.

to be honest, I don't think we will ever fully understand the Trinity. I do believe it is important that you believe it. The Trinity states that there is God in three distinct persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Now in our finite minds, like I said, we will never fully understand this. If you don't believe in the trinity I believe you can run into some trouble. The trinity clearly states that Jesus is God and if you don't believe that then you have to say that Jesus was just a man, and if he's just a man then he's a sinner and if he's a sinner, he cannot atone for the sins of mankind, and if he can't do that then you can throw Christianity out the window. I'm glad there is that mystery, If I could figure out everything about God He wouldn't be much of a God.

Yes yes yes, many people have attained salvation and many will continue to receive it accepting the trinity doctrine. Jews, Muslims, Baha'is, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc etc... Regardless of the religion, one can attain salvation. Salvation isn't just for Christians.

Don't worry about it, the trinity doctrine is FALSE ANYWAY. You're gonna see lots of Christians saying otherwise, and even some who will tell you that you HAVE to believe in the trinity or you'll burn in hell. DO NOT LISTEN.

Good for you, you see God as ONE. You can definitely attain salvation without the trinity.

The christian god is the god of the Jews and they know god is not a trinity as did the early Christians.
The trinity was introduced to Christianity in 325AD by Constantine the Great.
Trinity is a false doctrine and not supported in the bible if you study it and use your head with a logic view.
John 17:3 says taking in knowledge of God and the one he sent (Jesus) leads to eternal life.
So I would go so far to say that believing in the trinity is a sure way to lead you to destruction.

"...he that has endured to the end,
is the 1 that will be saved." ~~Matt10:22

So, u don't have to believe in the trinity lie,
to receive salvation.

The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses;
The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS;
Unitarians;
and Muslims;
Worship 1 God...Monotheist.
The 3 headed god,( the godhead) is false,
and the concept comes from Greece,
b4 that it came from Babylon.

edit:
So u see, ur not gonna be able to wrap ur head around it.
They'll use water, an egg, or the;
me, myself & I trick. Then there's the ever popular~
It's a mystery, our finite minds can't understand it....
O nea-sayers...
the mystery here, is not God;
but 'Babylon the great.'
It is Not Jehovah who is an unknowable, hidden God.
In the Bible Jehovah invites us to draw close to Him.
How would this be possible if He was hidden & unknowable?
This Father is not cold, distant or aloof--
despite what some austere religionists
& philsophers have taught.
We would hardly feel drawn to a cold God,
and the Bible does not portray Him that way.
On the contrary, it calls Him, "the happy God." 1Tim 1:11
He has feelings both strong & tender.
He is "hurt at His heart" when His intelligent creatures
violate the guidelines that He provides
for their well-being.~~~Gen 6:6; Ps 78:41
Our Father wants us to be close to Him.
His word encourages us to
"grope for Him and really find Him,
although, in fact,
He is not far off from each 1 of us."~~~
Acts 17:27
In fact, Jehovah invites us to draw near to Him.
He is ready & willing to receive us
into His favor as friends.
At the same time,
He promises that if we take steps to draw close to Him,
He will take corresponding action.
He will draw close to us.
Thus we may enter into something truly precious--
"intimacy* with Jehovah"~~~Ps 25:14

edit:
Hunter, we probably did go to the same school,
in fact I know we used the same book,
Oh! yeah! and the same teacher, God.
Ah, ha, so it was the same school.

*Interestingly, the Hebrew word rendered "intimacy"
is used at Amos 3:7, which says that the
Sovereign Lord Jehovah reveals
His "confidental matter" to His servants,
making known to them in advance what He purposes to do.

Salvation comes through believing that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died to pay the debt of your sins, and by accepting that sacrifice and asking God to cover your debt with Christ's blood. Belief in the doctrine of the Trinity is not necessary (and I say that as someone who does believe it).

The ONLY People that Even HAVE "A CHANCE" of Being Saved are those that DON'T Believe in the Trinity ! ! !

The ONLY Religious Group that "I" KNOW OF that DOESN'T Believe in the Trinity are Jehovah's CHRISTIAN Witnesses !

It is not necessary to understand the bible to get saved. That requires a belief that Jesus died for you.
You don't have to know why to accept Him. All the understanding and fulfillment comes after receiving the Holy Spirit that will guide you.
You will never understand by yourself. Ask God to show you the answers and He will.
