Hi
I have 4 cats and live with alot of cat hair. You will get over that with time. you probably won't even notice it too much after awhile.
Why do you keep the cat if you don't want it. It may take some time, but I am sure if you put ads in the local paper or SPCA they would surely find a good home for it.
It sounds like you don't really care too much about the cat and should give it to someone who will want it. Unless you wish you had your girlfriend back? Most people would dislike the animal that reminds them of there ex....

Cats love to be brushed and NEED to be brushed daily to assist them in getting all that loose fur off or it will either end up on your bed and clothes OR they get hairballs and vomit them up....just any place. DO NOT just take him to a shelter....he's doomed if you do. If you really don't want him, then take the time to put an ad in a local paper or if you are in college, on a bulletin board some where local. People are looking for cats all the time. You shouldn't have a hard time getting him a new home BUT the don't really require a lot of care>>>just brush or comb him good>>>>say 5 min in the morning and before bed>>>and vacuum the cat fur that is already all around and give him a chance. You might actually get to love him if you paid a little attention to him. It doesn't hurt to have one of those sticky rollers for YOUR CLOTHES,not the cat. You are wasting it on the cat. I keep one in the console of my car...in case I have a dark skirt or jacket on and see a few cat hairs...I can roll them off and look good when I get where I am going.

Aside from shellacing the cat (not recommended) or wrapping it in duct tape (also not recommended), I think you should get a new girlfriend who likes cats but doesn't have one and give yours to her.
A second option would be to leave the cat at your ex-girlfriends place (tied on a leash) (and make sure the cat is found). A note with the cat saying something about how everytime you see the cat it reminds you of her (the ex-girlfriend) and that is just too hard after all the wonderful times together you had that you just had to return him to where he started.
Now really, the shellac and duct tape things were just jokes... right! Right???!

Start feeding him catfood for hairballs. That's what my vet recomended for my cats& it worked. Also buy a Mr Sticky lint roller. Works really good. Maybe you could try &find a good home for him on your own somehow. Maybe ,you could just ask the X to take him back. Maybe you might decide you just like the cat after you try the new catfood& it works LOL I have 4 cats& no more shedding thanks to the food Good Luck

You need to brush him regularly to keep the flying hair to a minimum. If you have a cat , you have cat hair. Get several cat beds for the house and he will sleep in these instead of directly on the furniture.

you just have to vacuum more and get a lint brush... or the sticky rolly brush... they even have travel sized ones to keep in your car. Another thing to do is brush the cat regularly... not necesarly every day but once a week or something.

If you are going to have a cat or dog, get used to it. They shed . To counter-act the hair on your clothes, buy one of those rolling lint removers.
