The next time you have a spare half-hour watch people approach a stop sign.
Some will come to a full stop, wait and then proceed. Some will roll slowly to the sign, and then accelerate into the intersection. Some will just breeze right through it.
This is a stop sign, which is a real tangible thing offering a very clear piece of direction, and yet, people cannot agree upon how to behave regarding it.
Now, imagine those people approaching a non-verifiable, unidentifiable, unknowable entity whose existence cannot be conclusively proven. There is a tradition that suggests this entity has given instructions on every aspect of life, but the instructions are written in incomprehensible parables and arcane language.
I hope that helps.

Well that was a major hurdle and stumbling block for me before I became a CHristian. I could not understand that either. I was seeking desperately for the truth of God and just could not accept that all these other people outside of Christianity would go to hell.
But after seeking and reading for over 9 months I was given a clear revelation of why there is so many other gods, and other religions.
There counterfeit. The enemy knows we have a place in our minds and heart for God, if the enemy of God can trip us up or provide another means on the big broad road to keep us from the truth of the One God than he will continue to make up more and more gods along the way. Personally I was turned off by CHristianity because it did not serve "MY" needs, wants and I really, really enjoyed the sins that Christianity was against. But despite myself God still called me out and choose me. I am different now as I use to run to sin now I try and run away from it.

There are so many religions because man wasn't satisfied with the way God planned it in the beginning. Since man wasn't satisfied, the Devil got busy and made some religions sound so great that some of them think they are the original.
We'll see who is right at the end, won't we?

There may be one God in Christianity but other religions have more than one God. Some can have 10 Gods at once. Most have different beliefs for different reasons.

Because Man is proud and thinks he knows the way better than God and others. They thought this for a long time and so religions started popping up. Sometimes it isn't always this reason only. Sometimes man knew the churches weren't true so they tried to make it correct. But one can no do that without authority from God. I believe there is ONE true church for the ONE true God. There are just millions of stuck up creative people out there.

Religions are the traditions of man and not God.
DO THE WILL OF GOD
You need to find a home church, be obedient, follow his word, be baptized with the holy spirit, show your self approved and do the will of God (Mark 16: 15 - 18)

Believers do as well as devils. James 2:8,19.
Devils believe there is one God: Law.
Devils also fear and tremble at Law.
Knowers have compared the two Gods portrayed:
Law: I will forget you and forsake you: Jeremiah 23:39.
Grace: I will never leave you nor forsake you: Heb 13:5
AD--> only goes one way, unto the end already written:
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Because they were so many gods that one day man said it would be easier to have just only one god.

That's probably exactly what the Catholics thought when they introduced burning at the stake, crusades, the Inquisition... How dare the heathen heretics worship God their own way?
Hey... did I just see a religious person invoke Occam's Razor? There's irony for you...
