One quick answer: In the Lords Prayer we say "And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." The words AS WE. As=like, similar, same way, So, we are praying to God asking Him to forgive our sins in the same manner that we forgive those that have wronged (sinned) against us. If we wish ill toward someone means we haven't forgiven them. We haven't forgiven them and in fact we'd be hoping that bad things happen to them. Would you ask God to forgive your trespasses (sins) in that way? I don't think a person would ask God to forgive just some of their sins but not all of them. Not only that He wouldn't forgive all the sins but that He would let bad things happen too. If we are asking God to forgive us in the same manner we forgive other people, we better forgive others 100%. PS- The old phrase "Do unto others as you wish done unto yourself" fits this question. We wish for and want Gods, (and other peoples) forgiveness, so we need to do the same.

We shouldn't wish to others anything different than what we wish to ourselves and/or our children. What goes around comes around, and sometime comes right on our children...
In Brazil, we have this quote: "don't you ever throw a rock on someone's glass ceiling, when you have your own ceiling also made of glass".
Peace!

Matthew 22
35 Then one of them, [which was] a lawyer, asked [him a question], tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
