Sad as it may seem, Warren Jeffs kept to the traditional teaching of Joseph Smith. The Salt Lake City Mormons are the apostates because they turned away from polygamy in order to become a state.
And unfortunately, the followers of Jeffs have remained faithful and are supportive of him, even though he was found guilty. They have a stand-by "prophet" waiting to take his place.
The entire religion is considered a cult by Bible scholars and those who study cults.
God bless!

If Warren Jeffs had been called through the accepted methods, sure, I'd accept that he was a prophet.... IF....
A man must be called of God by prophesy... not his own sex drive.
The early Church accepted and honored Joseph Smith even after he was jailed.... Incarceration has nothing to do with it. Please study early Church history before you condemn us.
Please study how polygamy worked in the early LDS church.
1) A woman always had the option to refuse an offer of marriage. Even today, if a young man proposes to a young woman with the words, "I've received a revelation that you're to be my wife," she is encouraged to pray to God and verify that!
2) Underaged marriage was not allowed. Granted, at that time the age that was defined as legally "of age" was different from what it is now. Currently, law defines the age of majority (when one becomes a legal adult) as 18. In years past, it was as young as 6 in some states (Delaware).
3) Men who did practice it were less than 10% of the male LDS population- it wasn't nearly as prevalent as many think. Often the marriage was to provide for the woman and her children... as an alternative to her loosing everything she had when widowed.
4) The men who were asked to take a second/third/etc wife were typically NOT happy about it. Ask any married man if having a second wife would be a joy or a burden...
5) It was not intended to subjugate women. It was intended as a way for the woman to retain her dead husband's property. (BTW- Utah was the FIRST state to give women the right to vote!)

Real Mormons beleive that Warren Jeffs is NOT a prophet of God and is in the one place he should be.
Most Real Mormons do not like plural marriage.
Those that think it will come back and that it is acceptable do not believe in child marriages, do not believe that a man must marry as many women as possible, do not believe that a man should have more wives than he can afford, and do NOT believe (or should not) that men have any sort of POWER over women. In fact, one of our scriptures, the Doctrine & Covenants, says, in section 121, that the priesthood is NOT to be used unrighteously, or God will take his priesthood away from him.
OUR prophet, our real prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, is NOT rich and powerful, he is a very humble man, advanced in years, a widower who loved his wife dearly.
So, yes, THIS Mormon most definately separates herself from Warren Jeffs, because I think he is the lowest form of pond scum. Any man who advocates what he does is pond scum.

Do you even realize that the people you are bashing don't even have the Internet? At the very least they wouldn't even look inside a forum like this.
The only church that recognizes Warren Jeffs as anything are the FLDS, and they now consider him a martyr. You could call them Mormons, but they would only represent less then 1% of all "Mormons". Not to mention most Mormons are glad he is going to jail and never followed him.
BTW. it is true as mentioned, In the Main LDS church, ALL authorties are not paid by the church. All church funds goes to buldings, maintence, misisonaries, charities, and othersl but not to church officials. They have their money from their past profassions (lawyer, doctor, teacher, etc)

I would honor him- if he were the real prophet. Since he isn't, I don't. As others have stated, he isn't part of the LDS church at all. In fact, the people who broke off from the main branch of the church were excommunicated for NOT following the prophet about polygamy. Do you understand now? They aren't part of the church, haven't been part of the church in over 100 years, and have taken some of the parts of the church and twisted them.
Polygamy works well, when used under the constraints of what God wants it to be. When left to men, it gets twisted and isn't what it was supposed to be. No where does it say that the woman doesn't have the choice. No where does it say that little girls should be married to first cousins and then be forced against their wills to bow to their husbands every desire. No where does it say that young men should be forced from their homes and left with nothing and no one just so older men can have the young girls. Do you understand now why we don't accept or condone this practice as the FLDS church has done?
Our prophets aren't rich. They are powerful in the fact that God has seen to put them in a position of leadership, and because they are able to give ALL the keys of the priesthood to others. They aren't powerful because they hold sway over our lives, or force us to think a certain way. We follow them because we know they are called by God to do this work. Since the clergy in our church isn't paid (except of basic living expenses for the general authorities), everyone in the church does the work because of love, service and following what God wants them do. The prophet isn't paid to lead. He lives off of what he has made in life, and a very small amount from the church to pay for his living expenses. That is all. If he is rich, it is from his own making in life. Our prophet right now isn't rich, and if he were, it wouldn't matter. He doesn't flaunt the money he has, so even if he were, we probably would never know it.
Just so you are clear: LDS- Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
FLDS- Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. See the difference???

Warren Jeffs IS NOT A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTERDAY SAINTS
There, do you get it now.
Mormon clergy arent paid so their riches came from their own hard word and their secular jobs! The apostles and prophet, which are a small group, have living expenses paid for but most of them are retired or living off their own money.
Warren Jeffs never has been and never will be a mormon prophet!
When someone calls someone mormon everyone assumes they are members of the official LDS church so dont try to turn this around and claim Jeffs is mormon. In todays society as the term is used, he is not a mormon and if he were he would have been excommunicated long ago.
Oregon flower are you ever going to get over yourself?
You keep spitting out the same mindless cult cries of the antimormons. Should I accuse you of being in a mind controlling cult? What kind of a religion, that you belong to, wastes their time on bashing other religions when they could be focusing on their own beliefs and the good message of God instead? Dont you ever get tired of hating mormons?

Warren Jeffs is a memeber of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints, kind of the origional branch of mormonism. Most mormons are actually just Latter Day Saints... it's 2 totally seperate religions. So, I'm not sure who's a "real Mormon" but... that's why the LDS people arent' associated with him... it's 2 different beliefs.
