i have 2 children that i send to a catholic school for both of my children i pay $4600 a year in tuition to most it may not seem like a lot but to me it is.

i recently ran into a problem paying my tuition because i had emergency surgery and was behind
i explained this to the pastor and he told me that as long as it was paid on time it would be ok, i was 2 days late and my children were called to the office and sent home because of past due payment?

Would Jesus shut children out if there parents couldnt pay them? The Catholic has been under scrutiny because of the sexual abuse scandals you would think they be more considerate.

You pay for two kids only $4600 a Year. wow that is a good price for a private school. Don't forget, a catholic school is a private school. If it was some other private school that is not Catholic would you react the same way, or would it be different!
If you can't pay them the tuition, you have other options such as public schools or home schooling. The Catholic school have bills to pay, just like you. You were behind, and they gave you a chance to catch up. Frankly, It does sound odd that they will call the kids in two days. Sorry, but the situation seems incomplete.
I was in a Catholic school, and know how much it cost. $4600 is lot of money, but a great deal as well.

Ma'am, what does the Sexual abuse scandal have anything to do with this! If they are under scrutiny else where, they should give you card blanch for your bills! then, who will pay their bills! doesn't sound fair

Last and never least. I hope you are doing better after your surgery. I believe that God doesn't give us more than we can handle. Do you believe that too!
Good Luck to you and your kids. :-)

The Catholic Church is under scrutiny as far as the clergy sex scandal is concerned, but the reputation of it's schools remain impeccable.

The clergy sex scandal has absolutely NOTHING to do with your tuition problem - and you know it too. That's why you are still sending your children to Catholic school is spite of the clergy sex abuse.

Let's be honest: Your mention of the clergy sex abuse is nothing more than a cheap shot because you feel as if you are being wronged by the Church through it's school system? Cheap shots give you a short-lived cheap thrill of feeling like a big person, but it damages your integrity as an adult. Put simply, don't throw cheap shots.

Now, about the school. The cold hard fact is that schools need money in order to run and educate the student body. Speaking of the student body, don't forget that admission to PRIVATE (Catholic) school is entirely voluntary. In sending your children to a private school, you are agreeing to adhere to the school's policy as it pertains to, well, everything - including tuition.

A school cannot function when it is not receiving tuition from the parents of it's student body. If they let your tuition slide, in fairness they have to let others' slide as well. Pretty soon, the school will not have money to put towards the education of the student, and what good does that do the student?

No doubt your situation is frustrating, but the school is looking out for the educational well-being of it's student body.
Occasionally, this means making an example out of someone. It's never good to be the subject of that example, but think of the greater good that is being served.

You talked about what Jesus would do. Are you suggesting Jesus would claim your children should be educated for free while the families of the other students pay their tuition? Is that fair? I don't think Jesus promotes anything that is unfair.

Forgive me if I sound condescending. I am just trying to have you think of the sutuation from other's point of view. I will say that the school's sending your children home is harsh. I would expect a "grace period" (no pun intended) during which your children could still attend class so long as you promise to have their tuition paid up by a certain date or whatever - and make good on that promise of course.

Anyway, I appreciate the fact you think well enough of your children's education to send them to private school, and that you think well enough of the Church to send them to Catholic School, even in light of the clergy sex scandal.

This isnt about religious doctrine.

The school has a policy and if you dont follow it you will be removed.
I think they could have handled it better, but they are under no obligation to keep you.
If the school let everyone not pay due to personal problems there is a good chance most people would find problems that would prevent them from paying.

Jesus didnt need money to carry on or he found a way to get what he needed. The school needs money to continue.

I would call your pastor again and ask him to speak with the school. It sounds to me like he said it was okay but the school didn't know that so they followed Standard Operating Procedures. Not sure why they have this policy, but maybe they have had trouble with other parents in the past?

I've been late from time to time (and I pay about one tenth of what you do, but my husband has been out of work since Feb). My kids have never been sent home -- I just tell the school when payday is and I pay then.

I am not sure, but I am sure Jesus' foster father, Joseph the Carpenter, and Jesus himself when he practiced carpentry, charged a fair wage for his labor.

I am a devout Catholic, but I send my daughters to a Lutheran school becuase it is closer to home, less expensive, and not as elitist as the closest Catholic school.

Only $4600? My tuition was over $10, 000. Its ridiculous. My parents wanted a demanding single-sex education, but had to use all our money to get it.

It is like that with all bills. Look what credit card companies do, if your late your charged a late fee, gas and light companies will come shut your utilites off.

it sounds because of your attitude toward them to start with they might have just been looking for an excuse not to deal with a person like you. i don't blame them. They know what you think and why would they want you to deal with? You would prolly be one of the ones to scream abuse without any actual abuse happening just because you were mad at something.

I really have no ideal of what Catholic schools teach in-reguards to there curriculum, but if its the word of God there
teaching and nothing eles "Then it should be free" only
operating expense's should be charged. Does that help?

God loves you.....God bless
