It's called A.T.D. Apprentiship Training Division. It's not really an A school. It's a short course in basic seamaship skills and how to "strike" for differant ratings. Your going in "non designated" meaning your not getting an A school, just apprentiship training.
Look in block 41 of your enlistment contract and read what it says.

Nope. I've been out over 10 years but you used to start out in Deck divivision until you go up for E-4 then you'll become a Boatswains Mate. BM-3. Unless it's changed he lied to you.
I used to be in Deck division and none of my shipmates went to A school. Like I've said I have been out for awhile but we learned all those things on the boat and in boot camp.
The guy below me is right but I should get "best answer" because i posted before him. :)

yes, there is a BM A school. yes it is that short. Yes, you learn basic seamanship such as knot tying and the like. Yes, you get sent to deck division upon finishing.

Yes, you will learn basic seamanship as well as the use of sound powered phones, various knots, how to set the fuse on a shell..., all kinds of neat stuff.

You're going to ATD (Apprentice Training Division). They are going to teach you how to stand lookout watch and some other things having to do with basic seamanship.
