Yes girl, it definitely does unless you work for a cool place that don't judge. I have 7 tattoos, 3 of them are visible and it causes a lot of distractions at work. Co~workers are always saying, I didn't know you had any tattoos or they ask "Why did I get them","What do they mean" or "Did they hurt"? They make such a big deal out of them like they never seen a tattoo before. I wonder sometimes if I would have even gotten the job if they even knew I had any tattoos. I love all of my tattoos and I don't regret any of them but if I stay at this company, I will always be in the same position that I am currently in because the people here look down on you for having tattoos. Especially me being a woman and working in the medical field. People are always judging you based on what they think you should look like. It really sucks that you cant just be yourself.

I'm an office administrator in a website design boutique. I have 8 tattoos, three which are highly visible almost everyday, one covers my forearm (elbow to wrist) and 2 on my upper chest. Noone has ever said anything about it. Actually I usually get a "is that new?" from coworkers and i've been there for 8 months and have had them the whole time! Our company has some of the biggest clients in the country, and when they come in, they always mention how much the like my tats. Another guy in the office has tattoos pretty much completely from the waist up, and he has his lip and tongue pierced, clients don't care that he has all the visible tattoos. As long as we are doing a good job and pleasing them as clients, they don't care. I find that in the IT industry it is more accepted, because there are alot of artists (website designers) and it's all an expression of art.

There is quite a few tutors at my college with visible tattoos.
It just depends on the job, and as long as they aren't offensive. Despite what someone said, just because you have a visible tattoo doesn't mean to say you'll only get to work in places like blockbusters. That just sounded snobby to me.

it depends on the work place and the boss ,other then that most people just look over the fact that you have a tattoo.
but if you are covered with gang and jail house tattoos yes they will have a harder time getting a job working with the public.
so use good judgment as to what you get.

Wow people seem really immature..
I'm not job hunting, but the job I'm currently at has no problem with visible tattoos as long as they aren't offensive. It really depends on the place you want to work for I guess.
If anything for your interview wear long sleeves, and at the interview ask what their rules are.

I have had no problem at all with all of my visible ones. Tattoos are so commonplace nowadays that your boss is more likely to roll up their shirt and show you their tattoo than to be weird about it.

I have 3 tattoos, my husband has 5, and we believe that it is unprofessional to have them visible in the work place and look down on people serving us that have visible tattoos. We had all of ours done in a manner, that they can be easily covered. So I would not recommend getting any on your arms below the elbow or on the neck or face.
