Even if all you learned was how to Block and avoid being hit you would be "way ahead of the game"
Being a trained fighter gives you a very big advantage.
The most important one is having the mindset to avoid trouble.

Life is about odds.Odds are if in your lifetime you have been in 15 street fights, odds are you were badly thrashed in a minimum of three of them.(provided you're damed good).
On the other hand if in your lifetime you only had 2 or 3 street fights odds are you won all three.
(provided you're damed good)

A well trained fighter will ,"In nearly every case", come out on top in a street fight............
But then there is always the unexpected..............
An oily parking lot, after a rain, behind a movie theater,at night,.......... even if you keep your feet on the ground this is a bad place to be.
The mistake could cost you your life.
Think ahead, avoid conflict, use good sense,do this and your odds of winning go way up.

If a conflict arises, you will be more than prepared. Then do what you were trained to do,...."defend yourself"

Karate definitely works in street fights. With karate your 10 steps ahead of them, you know how to attack them successfully. Also with Karate if you learn it properly from a good instructor you will be pretty fast is well. Plus when they try to fight back you can block them and drop them(make them fall over).
Also if you have ever watched a Martial arts film with Jakie Chang or Bruce lee, you spot them doing moves from Karate that you know. When i see them doing moves that i can do, i feel good.

Winning a street fight depends on 3 factors in the following order:
1. Your mental/emotional state.
(this includes adrenaline state, nervousness, anger, how justified you feel in violence at given moment)
2. Athletic ability
(How fit you are, how strong you are, how fast you are)
3. Fighting Technique
(knowing how to throw a proper punch, etc...)

so does it work in the streets? yes. if you have your other two areas covered first you will be damn near unstoppable.

other than that just go with suprise haha...

They definitely don't hurt i guess. any type of martial arts only helps in a real fight. learning how to strike and defend from stand up takes a while to get good at and kick boxing is very applicable.... assuming ur good.

that being said, most fights end on the ground and thats why jui jitsu is helpful also.

lastly, most of these sports are regulated, even in UFC there is no biting, eye gouging, low blows, breaking fingers, back strikes, weapons, etc. and obviously there is no ref to stop this in a street fight.

Not a question if a particular style works, the question is if the user of a style is up for it...a street fight that is, and quite a few exponents aren't. THAT'S THAT, FACT.

Yes

Punching, kicking, blocking, headbutting, and sweeps are all good for defense but it all really depends on the fighter

Unless said fighter uses fist to face style! WATAAAaaa!

lots of good quality sparring(with head punches included) helps a little because it's not such a shock when you take a big hit. also it helps with your reflexes. throwing 1000 punches, blocks or kicks at nothing only helps marginally by making you slightly fitter.
