Please don't teach them that the earth is flat and supported by pillars like it says in the Bible. Sheesh. They'll think you're stupid.

Days can be generic. What is a day? 24 hours for this planet, longer for others. What's a day's work. For me it may be shorter than what you can do.
When we say catholic in with a small cap, it mean universal. When we spell it with a cap it is the religion. I find more people who aren't Catholic say Roman Catholic.
God created the world in seven days. We cannot determine the length of the day. That may have been 24 hours, 24 years or millions.
At their ages, you cannot expect them to understand all the theories that have been put forth.
Put it as simply as possible, if they ask. Otherwise, I would say, leave it to the teachers of the Catholic school whom I sure are asked these questions from time to time, have thought about it, and can well explain.
I applaud you for your determination at wanting to be a good sibling to your youngers, and hope that this helps.

Dear One, tell them both theories. It is good to be educated. There's no harm in explaining what Christians believe and what other's believe. Your little sisters may ask you what you believe, and you should tell them. But also tell them that they are very smart and that they should try to find out all they can about each theory. Teach them to ask questions. Tell them that, because they are so young, this question may 'hang around' for many years before they understand alot about it - and tell them that's ok. It's ok because even adults disagree on the answer still today. Tell them that maybe 'they' will find the truth one day.... and the whole world will be interested in their facts.... or their theory. But also tell them, only God knows the answer, and one day, everybody will know also.

Oh, go on then, my poor girlfriend is now relegated in my answers! She will have to ask another question! As long as it is not "Are you mad!?" lol
The truth as I see it is that God simply willed things to come into existence. For God, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. To He who is eternal, time has little meaning really. I do not believe for one second it is supposed to be literal. When creatures and organisms evolved it wasnt until the spirit of man descended upon the earth that man in his present form came into existence, i.e the spirit of Adam. It is the one thing that separates us from the beasts of the field. Well it does in many cases but not all. There are, sadly a great number of trolls who dont seem to want that which they have been given to set them above these.
You must always look after your soul and you must always honour your own heart. If something does not feel right to do then you should not do it. If you feel in your heart something is wrong then it probably is! Never hesitate, if your heart tells you something, LISTEN!!
Always make time to listen to God. Many fail by just preaching and reciting and learning. The greatest gift we have is the ability to learn from He who knows everything, all things. Nothing is hidden from the Sovereign Lord!
God is literally simply like the most loving Father ever in the history of all things. In Him there is no sin, no fault, just total and whole-hearted unconditional love. The kind of love that would give up His beautiful, perfect Son to save so many others. God wants you to grow in spirit and become strong to lead and help others, but at the same time, He is also swift to Bless and to comfort, to guide and to protect. God always listens. God does not always give you what you want, never be disappointed. He always gives you what you need, as any true loving father would. If your child asks you for a cigarette or a beer, wouldn't you rather give them an orange!! lol Gosh, I know I would!! May God Bless you along every step of the way. BTW the most powerful weapon Christians (and Muslims too!) have is something called intercessional prayer. Always pray for others! Never stop! Always remember too that the Word of God is living and changing. Try not to learn the Bible parrot fashion.....that is for parrots! lol Try to learn about the heart of God. Herein lies the key! His heart came down in the form of a man, the greatest man ever............ Jesus.

You should get her a science book or let someone with a scientific background discuss it with her. I am sorry, but since you refer to it as the big bad theory, I doubt you are qualified to explain the M theory or Hubble's Law to her.
BTW- it's universe, Catholic, Earth, they're and 6 days, not 7. He rested on the 7th- so you shouldn't teach her the creation story either.

Hello dear,
Wouldn't you like to teach them real knowledge which would benefit their souls?
"This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed." Bhagavad Gita 9, text 2.
"Transcendental knowledge involves understanding the difference between the soul and the body. And the king of all confidential knowledge culminates in devotional service.
Generally, people are not educated in this confidential knowledge; they are educated in external knowledge. As far as ordinary education is concerned, people are involved with so many departments: politics, sociology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, astronomy, engineering, etc. There are so many departments of knowledge all over the world and many huge universities, but there is, unfortunately, no university or educational institution where the science of the spirit soul is instructed. Yet the soul is the most important part of this body; without the presence of the soul, the body has no value. Still people are placing great stress on the bodily necessities of life, not caring for the vital soul.
The Bhagavad-gita, especially from the Second Chapter on, stresses the importance of the soul. In the very beginning, the Lord says that this body is perishable and that the soul is not perishable. That is a confidential part of knowledge: simply knowing that the spirit soul is different from this body and that its nature is immutable, indestructible and eternal. But that gives no positive information about the soul. Sometimes people are under the impression that the soul is different from the body and that when the body is finished, or one is liberated from the body, the soul remains in a void and becomes impersonal. But actually that is not the fact. How can the soul, which is so active within this body, be inactive after being liberated from the body? It is always active. If it is eternal, then it is eternally active, and its activities in the spiritual kingdom are the most confidential part of spiritual knowledge. These activities of the spirit soul are therefore indicated here as constituting the king of all knowledge, the most confidential part of all knowledge.
It is said that the execution of devotional service is so perfect that one can perceive the results directly. This direct result is actually perceived, and we have practical experience that any person who is chanting the holy names of Krsna (Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare) in course of time feels some transcendental pleasure and very quickly becomes purified of all material contamination. This is actually seen.
Without coming to the stage of devotional service, one cannot understand what is the Personality of Godhead. In the Srimad-Bhagavatam it is also confirmed that when one becomes purified by executing the process of devotional service, especially by hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam or Bhagavad-gita from realized souls, then he can understand the science of Krsna, or the science of God. Evam prasanna-manaso bhagavad-bhakti yogatah. When one's heart is cleared of all nonsense, then one can understand what God is. Thus the process of devotional service, of Krsna consciousness, is the king of all education and the king of all confidential knowledge. It is the purest form of religion, and it can be executed joyfully without difficulty. Therefore one should adopt it.

Tell them to read the Bible and learn for themselves. I know you realize that the Bible says that you will some day be held accountable for what you teach others, so be sure not to contradict God's Word.

Your sisters are so young.
They dont realize how large of a question this is.
I would tell them that the answer will be in stories and alot of it is hard to understand for adults even. Can be complicated.
GOD bless them

Tell them the truth. That's what they expect from you isn't it? And the truth is, there is a great deal of evidence in support of the big bang theory. There is absolutely no evidence to support the bible.

*Is Catholic*
Differentiate between the WHO of what scripture says and the HOW of what science says.
You should tell your sisters that God is the one who created the universe and then tell them how scientists think that He did it.
I don't know your age or your reading level but
In the Beginning...: A Catholic Understanding of the Story of Creation and the Fall (Resourcement) (Paperback)
by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger
http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Catholic-Understanding-Creation-Resourcement/dp/0802841066
is rather good but short. This would be good for you to read yourself.
If you are looking for good scientific books for yourself, message me.

Kids are not glass vases. They will not break with every good or bad answer.
More than anything, kids need the truth.
If you lie to them or mislead them, they will have to correct it later and will hold it against you.
Tell them what you know and what you think is true.
And tell them that they have to make up their own minds.
