Or do they search online and then copy & paste as "their" answer? I mean come on people, when your answer is like the whole length of the page when you scroll down, you know you didn't write it!

Oh I understand what ALL of you are saying here so far. I always think "what is wrong with these people that they can't check google or wherever!" but what gets me is why perpatrate that they know this when it is so obvious they copied it.

There are some very knowledgeable people here, but for the ones who are new to owning dogs, I think most of the time it is hard to distinguish the facts from the fiction. They can sometimes get such variable answers. There are people on here who claim to be vets or vet techs and they are not. They cannot show us their credentials. It is so easy for people to lie on here while they sit behind a computer monitor. And as for the copy and pasting, yes, a lot of people do that and it is most of the time coryright infringement. I hate when you have to scroll for a minute or longer just to get thru one post. I usually give those a thumbs down because one it is against the law and 2 they are not giving their own opinion, but someone else's.

I am a professional writer (in my day job). I'd never cut and paste content that wasn't mine without citing a source (that's stealing).

However, I don't usually answer questions with something that is on the Net unless it's a link that supports my answer or that I think the person my find useful later. I do write out every answer - some of them are BOOKS . I'll also go back and add something if I remember something later.

I tend to answer questions that I have personal experience with. I don't answer questions that I don't REALLY know what the answer is, or enough to offer an opinion.

This question is a perfect example. I answered you but I didn't need to cite anything. =)

Also, my source is my life which is why my signature changes a little for some questions. This time it will be slightly different again.

A lengthy answer doesn't mean it's a cut and paste job. I say what I need to say to answer the question, whether it's one line or 20. And even if the person does cut and paste something, I'd venture to say they knew at least something about the subject in order to find the right answer to post. There's so much junk floating about on the net that you do have to kind of wade through the junk to get to the right answers sometimes. However, if you cut and paste, you should cite your source. JMO.

I think a better question might be WHY do some people post the questions that they post, instead of searching themselves? Laziness??

I think that some people cut and paste from documents that they themselves have created over time to suit different (or often the same) questions. For example, I have a word document called yahoo.source that I use to paste into the source section of any questions regarding dog food. I have found these sources through my own research and think they are useful so I put them up for others to use if they wish.

I have seen others that people have obviously spent a lot of time putting together. Again these come out for the same old questions - "what should I feed my dog?" "Can I breed my 6 month old golden sharpoodle ?"

What I do is I print out the article on my printer with the link and I give out the link to people if they want it. Or I will type out a list of human foods that are not good for dogs or cats if the person wants it and I already have the list in front of me. I do not know how to cut and paste on my computer. Or I write down the link after I search it. I don't like cut and paste.

I think it is obvious there are some very qualified people on her who know a lot about what they are talking about but hey if you want to search it before you ask feel free and don't give them the credit unless the post it as where they got it. I have raised dogs, cats fish lizards and rats all my life and takes several courses I am by no means an expert but I do have some knowledge. It is up to you to check it out. Good Luck!

It isn't? depending on the question, I do write paragraphs to detail the answer. Look at some of my horse training answers- they take up quite a bit of room.

As for people knowing the answers, you need to look at how well it pertains to your question. If they do not address anyone in their answer and half the topic has nothing to do with your thing, it is probably pasted, but that doesn't make it a wrong answer.

I am more worried about people who write an answer, long or not, that is either soundly bad advice (anyone with common sense can see so) or they completely make something up and swear it is true.

If I cut and paste and answer, I always site my source in the next box down, or even in this box so the person can go look for more info on their own and to give credit where credit is due. But then I used to work in a library and know the copyright rules well enough to site my sources.

I've always written my answers. Even the ones that are a half a page long lol. I'm too lazy to search the web for a different answer when I can just think of it and type it all myself.

You can always tell the responses that are coming from the person, versus the ones coming from some google search LOL.

It's always very obvious...the least they could do is give credit. After all, there is a little box for "sources".
