Yes, it is too early to file the FAFSA form, but it is not too early to search for scholarships. The FAFSA should be completed in January or early February of your senior year of high school. However, the absolute deadline to complete the form is well before the earliest financial aid deadline of a college or university you applied for admissions. This will ensure a chance at the college's need based scholarship endowment fund. It needs to be completed each year until the year you gradate from college with your degree. I will include some other free ways to locate money to attend college, too.

First, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and state education grants available. Your best chance of getting a scholarship is on the local level.

Second, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. You enter a profile, and their search engine will find scholarships matching your individual profile. There is a scholarship for almost anything out there.

Good luck!

Check the fafsa website on a regular basis and as soon as the application for Fall 2009 is available, fill it out. Kep in mind you'll need your parents' tax information from the previous year, so you can get started but you won't be able to finish the application till March 2009 or so, depending on when your parents file.

it's too early for the fafsa. the info they request on the fafsa has to be from the tax return most current right before you go off to school., so, if you aren't going to college until fall 2009, then you will submit the tax info from your and your parents 2008 tax return. you won't have that until spring 2009.
as for looking for other scholarships, i believe you could start finding them now and maybe not apply til next year tho.
good luck. p.s. in your jr. year, worry more about making sure your grades are good and getting good scores on the act or sat.

You won't need to worry about filling out the fafsa untill you apply for college.
