Can you do any "general" office work. Things like filing? Do you know anything about the computer that you'd be able to learn & also do computer work at an office? (like type letters etc.) What about working at a department store or a retail store. ALL the cash registers give you the correct amount of change to give people, so you wouldn't have to even worry about math there. Also, there are ALWAYS positions at the large super markets w/so many different positions. You could even work at the deli counter cutting the meat & things of that nature. But most super markets are always looking for help of some kind. They pay decent & even offer benefits! Just keep putting out your resume & you are bound to come up w/something. Just something to give you a start in the working world. IF you can drive, you could get something in the "delivery" line of work. Don't get discouraged, SOMETHING WILL come along. Think positive...:)

Hate to say this, but I feel your setting your standards a little too high. If you are only limiting yourself to working in a medical office, you're limiting yourself. Some may only want to hire those who have previous office experience, or some may only hire those who are experts with Microsoft Office programs. If you really want to work in a medical office, you should apply at each and every one in your area, not a specific type or location. Also, you can't expect to hear from every place you apply at either. Some may not be hiring when you apply, so they may not bother to call you, others may be hiring, but won't bother to even check your application since you don't have any experience listed. Of course, you can always check back with the places you apply at to check the status of your application, although some employers find that annoying.

Starting off at McD's shouldn't be embarrasing to anyone. When I started working, I swore I would never work fast food, but then I started working at Wendy's and loved it. I joined the military a few months after starting, but will never forget the experience I had.

If you are desperate for a job, I suggest applying all over. Don't limit yourself to one office or type of office (medical field). Everyone always starts their first job on the low end of the totem pole. You have to start somewhere. Like someone above stated, contact an employment agency. They're good about placing applicants at jobs. Or check around at local museums for open office jobs. Also, if you don't know how to work the general office applications (Word, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite), then you'll have a harder time finding a job somewhere while someone who know's these programs will get hired quickly. Take a few classes to learn the basic programs. If you're already in college, you could ask your counseler to help you with your job search. Good luck!

Sounds like you should take an aptitude test. You can find some on the Washington state employment office web site. Links on the left side of the page. Good luck in your search.

You must have ideas about what kind of things that you like to do. Make a list of them and then start writing out what jobs need your likes. Do you like children - daycare assistant; do you like sales - clothing stores, jewelry; music - entertainment places; like dealing with people - waitress. Also, go to the local college and take their placement tests which give you ideas of things to do. It's time to take charge of your life.

If I were your parents you WOULD find something to do and yes even if that meant Micky D's if you wanted to continue to live in my house.

You will have time to find yourself while working and figuring out a way to get the job you really want.

You've applied for one job and you are done?!?!?!?!

Look at the want ads, call a recruiter, check the HR departments of ALL the companies in your area, check the internet.

Sara,

Go to your local community college and take the Campbell Strong test - it will actually tell you the types of jobs you would be good at.

With that in hand you can begin to explore what type of job you would enjoy.

the test may cost a couple of hundred dollars, but it is well worth it.
