It promotes deviant and sinful behavior.

specal k - I am against divorce when it can be avoided. If the spouse is abusive or commits adultery then I believe divorce is permissible.
As for Separation of Church and state, I don't believe that means that moral issues cant be touched by the state. Polygamy and bestiality are also illegal. Those are both moral issues.

The majority in any nation gets to decide what it right and what is wrong. Since the majority of people in the US feel homosexual civil union is wrong, they have the right to ban them.

Before you get your panties in a twist and start thumbs downing me because you're comparing this to the great civil rights movement let me just say this. IT'S NOT CIVIL RIGHTS! Civil rights was about a group of people who were different only in their skin color being denied certain basic rights that everyone else enjoyed. Homosexuals are given exactly the same rights as heterosexuals. Think for a minute, homosexuals can marry anyone they want who's of the opposite sex. Same as heterosexuals.

As for a religious marriage I don't take your point. As a religion gets to further determine what it accepts as right and wrong how would homosexual civil union have any bearing?

Civil unions of gays does not undermine marriage, It further undermines the the lives of gays. We are back to the question of the purpose of sex. The purpose of sex is the continence of the human race. Most Christians believe that sex outside of marriage is sinful. Now God understands that this is a very difficult at times. In ancient times two cities were completely destroyed because the people there completely ignored the prohibition of unnatural deeds.
