Well, Venezuela's president is very friendly with Cuba and I think he just decided he can serve another term by changing the country's constitution.

Nicaragua recently elected Daniel Ortega, a former communist leader, as its president, but he came to power through the democratic process and left peacefully when he was ousted many years ago. He also joined or re-joined The Catholic Church and says he is now against abortion, so maybe he is not far left enough for you; but you may want to check him out as he still considers Castro a friend and is very critical of the US.

Vaya con dios, amigo!

(or as someone doing a Bush impression once said "Viagra con Doritos!")

Socialist governments have gained a lot of popularity in South America in recent years, none of them are communistic to the degree that Cuba is, but Venezuela and Bolivia both have very left-wing socialist governments.

I don't know why you'd want to move there though?

It isn't a communist manifesto paradise in either place. Bolivia is the poorest country in South America. Venezuela has oil wealth, but lacks quite a bit in other general human developement index categories.

Unless you strive to take an active part in the social life of any country, with a strong feeling of respect to their culture, ignore the pettiness that exist everywhere, remain optimistic and lastly not expect a lot in return for your dedication, do not go anywhere. Enjoy your own little niche wherever you are. You sound sensitive and socially alert and dedicated. Best wishes.
