That's why I love Mark Twain, brilliant! Ol' Samuel sure knew how to make a point!
I've always agreed, it never seemed to inconvenience me one little bit...

Don'tcha know? Have they kept you in the dark this long? A long time ago, Bad Liberal, in a land far, far away and billions upon billions of years old, on a very inalienable, inalienable planet, came the leader Xenu, who could tolerate any condition, climate or creature except for the human race. Xenu saw us, watched us live a hundred or so years and decided we simply were too ignorant and violent to live. So he threw us all into a volcano, tossed in a nuclear bomb, and attempted to blow us all to bits. But we were just too annoying to go, our little bits attached themselves to the Earth and in a cannibalistic orgy someone accidentally got preggers. Then came more and more of us. Poor ol' Xenu became so depressed that we, the human race, not only survived but multiplied he's become a permanent member of the asylum ship Makewinds. Xenu is on constant suicide watch. It was thought he could not kill himself until a human called Bowie sang the song of the Space Oddity and Xenu realized that he could indeed become that man and just wait around to get hit by an asteroid. Too dangerous to have in the public galaxy. Oy, poor man. Indeed we were far more inconvenient than any of our swelled egos would have had the capacity to realize.

I have no record or memory of the time or its length so I can also say it just flew by if in fact it did exist. I say that because I see that time is only of value or a unit of measure if something is pending that can or will be experienced some way that will result in a known change. Since I have no memory of the prior experience if it did take place, I have a hard time to allow time to be in place.
I personally see the death I assume you are making reference to as quite different that that time, as you say, prior to existence. In death I see a memory and a conscious awareness.
I may be wrong but that is my view. In this pending death that those who do choose to die elect by their desire, will be felt and known. For me there are plenty of references recorded in the Bible to this fact.

Shouldn't the word, dead, in your question be replaced with the word, non-existent?
