I am a true follower of Jesus, and I follow Matthew 12:1-14. The 10 Commandments require that the Sabbath be kept Holy. The PURPOSE of the Sabbath is to rest and to worship God. Church leaders are to work by conducting worship services.

Who is going to judge what is considered work on the Sabbath?

Matthew 12

Lord of the Sabbath

1At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, "Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath."

3He answered, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5Or haven't you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the day and yet are innocent? 6I tell you that one[a] greater than the temple is here. 7If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,'[b] you would not have condemned the innocent. 8For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

9Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"

11He said to them, "If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

13Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.

Yes Jesus Christ said: The Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath day.

Mark 2: 26-28 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

Therefore, yes, we are to observe a Sabbath, but the day (Sunday or Saturday) does not matter, as long as you have one day of rest per week. All work and no rest make Johnny a dull boy remember???

I suspect you're getting at the "putting to death" part of the verse. Of course, such things in the Old Testament were done legally (Num 15:32-41). Just as today, it was not legal to take the law into your own hands, pass judgment and stone someone. A law-breaker had to be brought before a *duly appointed* judge (in this example, Moses himself), be charged, convicted (after the hearing of evidence), and the execution ordered.

If someone in Old Testament times were to independently determine that someone had broken the law and stone them, they would undoubtedly have been charged with murder.

Goes on to say that don't light a fire on those days. In any of your dwelling houses. If they did that in North Dakota they would freeze to death before the winter was over.
This was for a special people for a special time period.
Just as was the cermonial laws about uncleanness if you have a baby.
Things change and people are living in different places then just the middle east. You can't take out one scripture and base your life on it.

I believe that due to previous difficulties Jehovah sent his son, Jesus Christ, to spend some time here to expand upon things and speak of future events. During his time he did an incredible amount of teaching, Much of this is in the reference books listed above, one of the many saying was that the sabbath was created for man and not man for the sabbath there are many more details listed you should read some of them - New Testament!

The sabbath is everyday for me. Iam with God always. I dont just go to Mass once a week, I go several times a week and pray several times a day. I dont need a special day to make room for God, I make room for Him everyday. I have God with me where ever I go. Now the Lord's Day which is Sunday is very special to me and always attend Mass

Brim,
This was written for the Israelites and we are living in NEW TESTAMENT times today. The Old LAW has been nailed to the cross at Calvary. It has been replaced by the New Testament. Have a wonderful evening and a glorious week.
Thanks,

Jesus, himself, healed people on the Sabbath.
There are just some things that need to be done.
If you have an infant child, does that child not need to be changed and fed?
If you have a hospital full of patients, do those patients not need taken care of?

Uh.....honey, newsflash.....we live in the era of the NEW Testament. Wake up and stop asking silly outdated questions like why women are unceremonially unclean after giving birth and if we should go around killing all our enemies or killing animals. K?
