NAFTA has been absolutely terrible for the job market and for farmers in Mexico. While light manfacturing and assembly work has moved from the United States to Mexico, mostly along the border, many more Mexican jobs deep in the interior of Mexico were wiped out. NAFTA has made the problem of illegal Mexicans in the US far worse.

THe same thing it did here. Scewed up our economic system. destroyed the job market on both side of the border. Made the rich even richer. Of course Everyone seems to blame the US, when 3 countries signed the treaty. To be honest, the Mexican elite benefitted more than anyone else.

It would have been fine if they had cut farm subsidies in the United States at the same time they passed NAFTA. The real problem is the farm subsidies, not free trade.

Their GDP crossed the trillion dollar threshold in 2004. Per capita income is now $10,800. Inflation has slowed from over 17% in 2003 to under 4% today.

But the population grows faster than the economy can keep up with. Mexico's population is 107 million, but its labor force is under 40 million. Why? I'm guessing it's because most are too young, yet, to work.

China realized the staggering expense to an economy of irresponsible birthrates. The one-child policy brought about equally staggering improvements in their budget goals, most telling of which is likely the fact that in a single year, 1st grade class-sizes in some areas dropped from over 120 to under 20 - that was, of course, 6 years after they begin to enforce the policy.

But NAFTA or not, I don't believe in FORCING a person to take a birth control shot. It should be voluntary. And if every cost of raising a child is placed on the parents and if those who cannot afford to raise their children are forced to adopt them out to better-prepared families, word will get around, birthrates will decline and the GDP and per capita incomes will increase.

I know it displaced people from both sides. Our influence lost them jobs but they don't seem to realize we lost alot as well. They lost jobs and came here....we lost jobs and are still here trying to function.

I just don't think their were too many people on either side that thought this was as good deal a deal as they were telling us it would be. We're all just stuck dealing with the fallout. Sure some benefitted.....but way more didn't.

I just hope many realize....no one asked for my vote. Wasn't my idea.....I lost in the fall-out too.

It hurt the job markets in both the US and Mexico, in that farmers were hurt in Mexico, and industrial workers were hurt in the US.

The elite of both countries take their profits at the expense of labor.
