Wait until you get an ultrasound. The risk of complications is very low whereas the amino has more possibiltiy of problems since it is more invasive. It would be pretty silly to just want a jump start on paint and possibly abort your fetus by accident.

No, you should not get an amnio. You get an amnio to see if there are complications or advanced age of the mother. Wanting to know the sex is not a good enough reason. Paint the nursery yellow and buy toys and clothes in neutral colors. Sometimes they can tell with an ultrasound although these are not always accurate (neither of mine were).

NO!!!! If you do an amnio there is risk of several complications from the test... premature rupture of the membrane, miscarriage, and very early delivery. Were they not able to tekk from the ultrasound? If this is the case ask the doc to order a repeat scan which is not harmful at all. In additon to that it would be hard to "fake" the right kind of complications to require an amnio. Good Lcuk and you can alway buy green and yellow

Do not get an amnio just to find out the gender. There are risks involved with that. It is selfish to possibly put the baby in danger just to find out if it's a boy or a girl. Anyways, even if she faked complications they may not do one. Tell the doctor you want to know the sex, they can do that quite accurately with a sonogram.

You do not need to have an amnio to get an accurate prediction of the gender of your baby! At around 20 weeks gestation, she can have an ultrasound that can pretty accurately tell you. There is a 3% chance of miscarriage with an amnio, so please don't do it unless you and/or your Dr believe that there is a genetic disorder that your baby may be prone to. Your GF probably couldn't pretend to have a complication and get an amnio anyway--most Dr's wouldn't agree to it. Good luck!

If you wait till your ultrasound, you can find out the gender. Why risk the health of mom and baby over something so silly? At 20 weeks, you can find out the gender and still have months for decorating the nursery.
If you fake complications, you do realize it will make life harder on her and baby, and she will undergo so many tests? Specialists will be seen, and unless you have some awesome insurance, you will be paying all those extra co-pays for each visit.

Miscarriage risks from amniocentesis have recently been found to be far less common than previously stated: 1 in 1,600. However, just getting it to determine gender is not a great idea.
I had one with my daughter because I was 39 years old, and though the test itself is no big deal, my insurance company was billed $1,600 for the test. That's a lot of money...even if you have insurance, you're driving up rates for everyone else by having an unnecessary test.

Amniocentesis carries with it a risk of miscarriage and should not be done lightly. Finding out the sex of your baby is not worth losing it. Settle for the sonogram results or paint the room yellow.

And what happens if it turns out you have a girl? Will you be disappointed or something? Don't go for an unnecessary test just to find out the gender, you can go and have a third party ultrasound that you can pay for out of pocket if your doctor doesn't see the need to do anymore.

Just wait until the ultrasound. amnio is not 100% safe. That's mainly to check for down syndrome in older women.
