You have to be 18 to join on your own, or 17 with the consent of a parent or guardian.

LOL!!!!!! Some of the answeres that you have recieved are so very close, but not quite right. You can sign up for the navy at 17 with Parental Consent as long as your a high school senior, the GED option is VERY VERY VERY limited. I used to be a recruiter, and had a gentleman at MEPS the day after graduation when he technically became a senior. Your recruiter will get a Will Grad from your high school councellor to make sure that you are a senior, and you will graduate on time as long as you pass all of the required classes. You also have to have your deploma before you ship to basic, so STAY IN SCHOOL AND GRADUATE!! Its so much easier than trying to get the waivers for a GED. When you talk to your parents, DO NOT start off with something like "Mom, I was kinda thinking that maybe I should consider joining" No confidence will get you railroaded into not getting consent. "Mom, I want to join and here's why" will get you farther. Also, set up a time for your parents to talk to the recruiter so they can get the same information that you did. Everyone being on the same page helps.

I signed up for the Navy at the age of 17 with my parents permission (waiver). I had already graduated high school, so I was sworn into the Navy and awaited boot camp. By the time I got to boot, I was 18.

17 with a diploma and parental consent, otherwise 18.
We signed our daughter in at 17 & 4 months with her GED.
Dj_Ez: she did not need a waiver as she graduated from Job Corp, which is a federal program and no waivers are needed.
