this is how my mom does it. she cuts it in half. takes out the ickey part. then she puts in brown sugar or syrup. then margarine or butter. then she puts it on a baking sheet and cooks it in the oven. When it is done. She lets it cool. Once it is cooled. She scoops it into freezable containers. So she can have squash year around. You would not even know that it was not just cooked fresh when it comes from freezer.

Cut it open.

Scoop it out.

Steam it.

Then freeze it.

Otherwise, it will just be a mushy mess, since the water content (which is high) will freeze and destroy the celluar structure.
