...And I just noticed the bottle says not to use on kittens under 8 months. I did it because my husband told me to and he's had a lot of cats in his lifetime so I thought he knew what he was talking about. I rinsed her off really well and she's licking her fur now. Will she be alright?

I double checked the bottle and it does say 8 months, not weeks. The stuff is called Sentry Purrscriptions, so I guess that means it's prescription strength? We got it at Petco. Anyway the cat seems fine now, so thank you to everyone who gave advice! I had never heard of that dish detergent thing before. That's wonderful.

Wash her in dish detergent. Dawn is best but any will do. Not anitbacterial ones as they contain a harmfull ingrediant. The dish detergent WILL wash away any chemicals left on the coat. Get in into the skin, let it sit for a few minutes. Foaming at the mouth is very common with cats and kittens even when not using chemicals such as flea products when giving a cat or kitten a bath. It's just what they do, so don't freak out if you see this happening. However, if the kitten becoms lathargic, or starts walking sideways and seems "drunk" you HAVE to get the animal to a vet asap or it will go into shock and die. I don't know what kind of flea product you used that isn't safe on kittens under 8 months old. I've never heard of such a harsh chemical in flea shampoos. Most are safe for 4 weeks and older. Wash the kitten with the dish soap (dawn), let it sit for at least 5 minutes and wait and see what happens. If she's going to have a reaction other then foaming or drooling from the mouth it will happen within the next couple of hours. Watch for a seizure as well. It its the most common sign of toxic poisening. As for the future and flea problems, pick up some frontline and use it instead of bathing with flea products. It works and is safe. You can also try advantage, which i believe works better on cats. But don't panic and zip off to the vet just yet. wait and see. She's not a little baby anymore and is more resiliant then if she were 8 weeks old. Are you sure the bottle didn't say not to use on kittens under 8 WEEKS old?? Again, I've never heard of a flea product that has such a high age limit and I've been familiar with flea products for 20 years. I'm curious as to what the name of it is.

Well, you now know the answer!!!! You should get some Advantage. Shampoos do not have lasting effects and if the cat was in the house, the house has fleas too. Advantage applied monthly for the next few months will get rid of them on the cat and in the house without resorting to all the other harsh chemicals!!!!

For now, just watch for signs like vomiting, lethargy, trouble walking...anything that seems out of the ordinary. If you notice anything, get the cat to the vet ASAP for treatment!!!

I'd rinse her again and dry her well- blow dry her if she'll allow it. Licking her fur is not a good thing.
It's more effective to comb and vaccuum when the kitten is too young. You have to vaccuum the whole house anyway.
These shampoos are toxic.
The shampoos can sometimes cause central nervous system effects- she may be logy and dizzy and lethargic.
If she starts seizing or drooling, get her to the vet.

As strange as this sounds, two different vets I know said that Dawn dishwashing liquid is completely safe for kittens that age....who knew?

She should be okay, but keep a close eye on her. If she starts acting out of the ordinary, take her to your vet.

Next time, try using the liquid above (but keep it away from the eyes!). Of all of the kittens I've ever had, I've never had one problem. It kills fleas, too.

i does no longer be bothered in any respect. in case you prefer you may communicate on your vet the next day approximately getting revolution to your cat, treats for each thing, heart worms and all that undesirable stuff. that's a as quickly as a month liquid which you word on on your cat or kitten in between the shoulders on the floor. between the excellent issues you need to use on a cat, so do communicate over with them approximately utilising that.

She should be ok, but just to make sure, keep an eye on her. If she starts scatching or acting funny then you need to take her to a vet.
