Dreamstuff Entity, you took the words right out of my mouth. Lennon was amazing, and was killed for working for a goal that could only help improve the way of life for everyone in the world. Even now, almost 27 years after his death, he inspires people to work for peace.

Most unfortunately, never. See World History Textbook (any will do). History kind of sets a precedent for the future. There will always be fighters.
Plus if you're a Christian you can also see Daniel 2:32. It truly is a pity, but sinful humanity can never live in peace as one, until God returns and removes those who have accepted His forgiveness (see Rev. 20) and the world won't be at peace until He returns and removes sin from the world (see Rev. 20 again)
