Greetings. privacy? what is that? military toilets have no walls between stools or toilets. they are simply arranged in a row and everyone just squats on one and takes care of business. Military does not trust the people it at all so there is no privacy where there is not someone or many someones watching you. The biggest propaganda screw up I ever saw was the Army campaign with "be a army of one" no one in the Army or Marines is ever allowed to be alone or to have any privacy. might think thoughts not in the guide book if they suddenly found they were not under observation. For showers is just a room with a lot of water spray heads and everyone simply walks in naked and takes a shower. In some services the showers and crapper are unisex, so both sexs just use them when the need arises. I have heard that it is not wise for a female to use them alone though. incidents of rape are right up there with awol in the military. they recommend that females go to the bathroom or shower in groups. seems a wise decision. Have to wonder where you got the idea that there was such a thing as privacy in the military at all?

Actually, in the military, everybody gets their own apartment. It's not all that big... only about 1500 square feet. It's really terrible. The maid service is terrible. And they wake you up before noon. But what's really bad is that you have to use one of the three or four 50-meter pools... with other people. And sometimes you have to call ahead for a tee-off time. But the golf courses are pretty good. You only get a female personal trainer if you're lucky. Inga was absolutely incredible. You'll get tired of the menu Steak and lobster gets old two or three times a month. The wine list is pretty awesome... at least it was in California.
Did you get private showers in PE in high school? Shower and restroom facilities are about the same as for high school gym classes.
The military is designed to make you one of a group. They don't do that by isolating you.
If you're enlisted, you're going to share barracks and showers with a bunch of other people. You'll share classrooms, you'll share walks in the country. You'll share PT. You'll share meals. You'll share the love and respect of and for your drill instructor.
If you're in an officer program, you'll share sleeping your sleeping area with fewer guys, probably 3-5.
But it's not like the whole world is looking at you. If you're that selfconscious, either you'll get over it, or you're going to be embarrassed for a few years.

Unfortunately, there isn't much privacy in boot camp. You've got groups of 40-50 people trying to shower in 15 minutes with 12 shower heads. Of course, this changes after you receive your orders. Then, you're stationed somewhere, living in barracks or on a ship...for the most part, the humiliation is far behind you.

There I was!!!! No ****!!! NTC (National Training Center), in the dust bowl drawing our tanks to go out to the "box." Takes about a week. Hitting the latrine at 0500 for the morning constitutional, Class I download (taking a dump for civilian types. There are about 15 shitters in a row with a row across and from and facing you. Just about everyone is occupied and there are no stalls, just open air early morning fellowship with my "brothers in arms!' Dont you know as soon as a sat down the buy next to me wants to strike up a conversation. I don't care that much about privacy anymore. After 16 years I don't care who sees me piss or ****, or what doctor wants to cup my nuts for physicals, but can't a man let another man **** in peace....There's my "war story" on privacy. Props go out to all my Marine brethern out there. Berthing areas for guys on floats really suck. Thank God I live on a tank most of the time.

Situations dictate. When I was at Camp Muchuk, we had an area near the perimeter wire where we urinated. Often times, there was some kid on the other side of the wire trying to sell us everything from cigarettes to his 12 year old sister.
Aboard the ship, we had individual shower and toilet stalls. Living pier side while they were off loading our gear from the MPS ships, the shower was open air right there in front of God and everyone. And we were thankful to get that.

If you are modest, the military may not be for you. Marine Corps Boot Camp is very "busy" and there isn't much time or tolerance for shyness. Yes, you share showers, yes, you may have to use the toilet in front of others. Trust me, though, in Boot Camp, THAT is the least of your worries! You will be happy just to BE showering and and using the toilet! :)

there isn't any privacy especially when it comes to shower time you see them and they see you ( you fellow platton mates ) even using the bathroom is no private affair especially if you bivouacking you'll have to dig a hole in the ground and do your business and cover it up ( CAUTION: be careful of the poision ivy plants ).
