Most jobs allow for on the job training rather than MOS school. Unless your job is one that requires a great deal of training, you will report to your first duty station as instructed by the Marine Corps. I don't know of a lot of training, that would be required to be an MP, but I've never been one, so I can't say for sure, how much post training is involved !

It all depends on where you would be stationed. MP is a Police officer, so that's basically what you would be doing. But then again you could end up in Iraq.
In the Military training never stops, sometimes it gets stupid, you'll just have to deal with that. Just remember that as an MP you'll have to deal with and possibly arrest/ticket other service members, be respectful. The military is a good job, just watch out, Stupid people are everywhere, if you can deal with be away from friends and family for long periods you'll be fine. Stay out of trouble, don't get labeled as a "sh#t bag".

After bootcamp? It will depend upon your MOS. If you're an 0311 and you cross the grinder at MCRD San Diego, you're heading for Camp Pendleton. Will you be getting trained? Yes! The military is big on training. How exactly is the military job? Again, it would depend upon your MOS. I was an 8425/8404. My work day began around 6:30am and ended around 11:30am. I didn't pull duty, I didn't work nights or weekends. I did however, work my tail off when I was working. The sooner I got my job done, the sooner I got to go home. And when I was deployed, I worked on average 18-20 hours a day, six days a week. On the seventh, I'd work about 8 hours and call it.

Well I am a little puzzled. I always thought the Marines were policed by the Navy Shore Patrol (SP). So you say you signed up to be an MP in the Marines. If that is the case, then you would receive police training and then be assigned to duty someplace.

If you finish Boot Camp and The Crucible then you will have to go to (at least when I was in) MCT (unless the rolled it into Boot Camp now) and after MCT you will go to your MOS school. For MP's it is in Lackland, AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Once complete with your schooling, you will be assigned a permanent duty station.

There is not any set period of time to be promoted to any rank. Unless you could have a agreement that states this. I went in on a six 12 months agreement and received east coast assurance, began out as an e-two, was once promoted six months later to e-three.
