you usually see movies and see all their sets so how do they make money?

On TV, it's all about the advertising. The more popular the show, the more it can charge for commercials, which trickles down to the producers and others.

It all adds up to big, big money.

TV shows are not only viewed in the US but around the world.
Every station that broadcast a show needs to pay royalties to the original producers.
So the more the show is viewed, the more money it makes.

they pitch the idea and sell it as a successful investment. and what the return profit would be. it would have to be larger than the production budget proposals for it to get the green light. they get a loan in the meantime, advertisers and sponsors can get involved as a money source as well, and wait for the release date to see what they get back. if its good, that person producer director actor whatever establishes cred and the next thing he proposes is looked upon with more ease.
