I recently received a regular-sized crock pot for my birthday, but I only cook for one. I know they make smaller ones, but I can't exchange the one i have. Is it okay to cook small portions in the big crock pot? Would I use the same recipes at the same heat and time setings?

Look at the serving size for the recipe and cook what you know you can eat, and the same heat settings applies, but time may be less

If you make a stew- YUMM you can always freeze it .

I have a seven quart and like you I've had the same question . The way I see it since the heating coils are on the side of the unit if the pot is not properly filled the ceramic insert might crack from the heat So the lowest fill i use is half way up??Crock pots are so inexpensive why don't you get one designed for 1-2 portions?? The best crock is a All-Clad i don't know if they make a small one. Good Luck

I use my crock pot all of the time. I can put any cut of meat in it and at the end of the day it is a hot tender dinner. You can do your brisket on the stove in a pot, in the oven, or marinate it and put it on a grill. The grill needs to be low and slow. If not it will be so tough that no one will be able to eat it. You can look online at all of the things that you can cook in a crock pot. From dips, entrees, desserts, and many more things. You can also have fun and try new recipies on your own.

I would. But there may be times when you should cut down on the cook time because your working with heat at a larger capacity, You'll have to experiment with that but soon you'll know your crock pot and will be able to better judge the temp.
