At the moment I'm leaning towards the remington, it seems to use higher quality products and is put together well. As far as
the Mossberg coming with pistol grips extra, they might look cool, but in my opinion have no business being on a 12ga. shotgun. The mossberg is 8+1 I think. The Remington 6+1, but they offer an extension a +2 extension or so have been told, what's the facts?

It's said that imitating something is the HIGHEST form of flattery. This is the case of these two shotguns. The Mossberg was designed to try and grab a percentage of the market after the already overwhelming popularity of the Remington 870 Wingmaster and the later 870 Express Model were established. Don't misunderstand, the Mossberg is in fact a quality Shotgun at a very affordable price, but if you actually compare the two side by side you will see the difference in quality of the Remington 870 over the Mossberg 500 series. Mossberg has even got to the point where they are manufacturing accessory barrels for the Remington 870. To me..that speaks volumes. Not to mention the Remington 870 is the #1 shotgun chosen time and time again for Law Enforcement use, by different departments and jurisdictions throughout the U.S.

With the exception of the Mossbergs ability to carry two more shells in it's magazine extension over the Remington 870, it gives up a lot more in quality of production, despite the additional few dollars that the Remington costs. I would also make this point..If you can't stop what you are shooting at in 7 shots, are two more additional shells going to make that much of a difference? You wanted the FACTS...Here they are...I sense I am just confirming what you already know and found out on your own.....Good Luck with whatever you decide....

the Mosssberg 20" holds 8+1, I have used both extensively and they are both fine shotguns. The Mossberg had a home on my boat for many years, and I still have one at home for self defense. I'm not putting the remington down, I carried one in my partol car for many years as well. I just thing the Mossberg is a better value for the money. By the way, I've never broken either the mossberg or the remington and I've treated em both hard.
Good luck

The Remington 6+1 *is* with the 2 shot magazine extension installed. The 870 is standard 4+1. You can't add a longer extension to that barrel configuration without the magazine tube sticking way out the front.

That's one of the things the Mossberg has over the 870 and pretty much always will. It's designed with the magazine capacity in mind.

Others include a better safety, better bolt release, far easier field stripping and cleaning, easier and safer loading, easier and safer unloading capability, the ability to repair/replace every single part in the field with standard tools etc etc etc.

The Remington 870 is an excellent shotgun and has been the police shotgun for many years. Unless you're gonna keep your shotgun in your cabin cruiser in sea water spray all the time, then go with the 870.

Best.

I would go with a Mossberg 500A mariner. The A models have the magazine tube the whole length of the barrel adding more rounds from the factory

Both are fine weapons.
I own each without any problems.
The Mossberg won the US military durabilty test.
I'd pick the Mossberg but you will not go wrong w/the Remington either.
