You need to understand the economic return that a ball player offers a team. Of coarse it isn't right that some immigrant from Guatemala, or some such place, can come to the US, play ball, make millions, while our troops are off to war, for the money they make and the threat of being killed.

I guess the only practical answer is supply and demand.

Because fans spend billions on tickets to see athletes play, but nothing to see the troops fight.

Because today's military is an all volunteer force. The pay rates are public and accepted. Besides, after Bill Clinton cut so much of the military during his presidency, we have been playing catchup ever since.
