How seriously should we take that statement? Is it wrong to kill for any reason at all? I am joining the Marines soon and I'm willing to take a life to save a friend or take the life of any enemy trying to take mine. Is this wrong? Will god forgive me for my sins if i am to do such a thing? Or to even think of doing it?

Take it from me. Don't join. It is a waste of your time. Do you know who you will be killing and why? Do you think that your government cares to tell you why they send men to kill and die in these wars. They have hidden agendas, and are out for more power. Make sure you are prepared to kill people for no good reason. If you are ok with that then go for it. Oh and by the way, have you ever thought that maybe the govenment does experiments on soldiers, because they own you. You will be a slave, without the ability to make your own decisions.

Killing is a sin...

Defending is a good deed...

In these days and age, the military doesn't defend, but go after innocent people to satisfy the powerful few...

When we're rid of this administration, becoming soldier might mean defend people again...

Hold off joining the marines for a while...

self preservation is ok. Like if someone were to break into your house with a gun and you shoot them to save your family that is ok. If you are really having a prob with this see if you can do something besides line of duty....ie people in the navy can work as hospital corpmen so maybe there is something like that for marines? Maybe rethink your descision? Perhaps be a marine chaplan

The correct translation is thou shalt not commit murder.

Killing is permitted in defense of your country and to prevent others from being killed. The trouble is that leaders are asking soldiers to go and kill where they have no right to go.

The correct translation is "Thou shalt do no murder".
Self defense, defense of ones country, state city or family etc are not murder.Premeditated murder is different as is abortion.
I had to wrestle with that 35 years ago as I went to Vietnam.I believe I am right.

God has condoned wars in the past with his blessing. Josue was commanded by God to kill ALL citizens of Jericho, not just the men. Just make sure that you kill with necessity and keep in contact with the Lord to ask him for protection and guidance. God bless you and give you courage.

"Cursed be he that taketh reward to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen" (Deuteronomy 27:25).

If you are getting paid to do it then the punishment could be PTSD or WORSE.

If a nation was invaded illegally then everyone who was killed were innocent since self defense is allowed for "THEM" also.

What message of love and scripture will armies and guns bring to non Christian nations ?

In Hebrew as well as English, there is a distinction between to kill and to murder. As opposed to killing, murder is the taking of life without legal justification (execution after due process, milatary, police officer ect.) or moral justification (killing in defense).

If you have any doubts about killing, you will overcome it. Your training and your will to live will see to that. When you meet the enemy he will be trying to kill you and you will know what to do. Concentrate on your training and forget the philosophical stuff.
