I mean come on, people! My sisters don't object to it! My parents don't see anything wrong with it either! Is something wrong with me or something?

Our neighbors are spreading rumours about me and my sisters and they won't shut up about it, and they are disgusted! I don't get it! My sisters and my parents find nothing wrong with it, but THE SPIES just won't SHUT UP! Besides, I am NOT GROPING my sisters! We've been as close as glue, and as they say, old habits are hard to break! Gimme a break!

Most Americans aren't demonstrative people. It even makes many people uncomfortable to witness demonstrations of affection between others. Some people consider a touch on a thigh to be intimate, and therefore, inappropriate in public. Anything that might be considered inappropriate in public would certainly be considered inappropriate between sisters.
If you and your family consider it to be acceptable behavior, then you should feel comfortable showing affection to your sisters in the way that is acceptable to your family. However, in public, you might want to avoid drawing negative attention to yourself.

I personally don't see anything wrong with appropriate physical affection between brothers and sisters. But, in the culture where I live, placing a hand on a thigh is generally only done with a person with whom you have a close romantic/sexual relationship. I can see why people would be at least confused.

Bro, relax! All of you here on Y/A who think that gesture is perverted, check yourselves in the mirror, please! And about your neighbors, it goes the same. They are the perverted ones. They don't appreciate the value of touch (in fact, they twist it). They never understand the meaning of a touch! That is a very intimate gesture, yes, but why should they stick their noses into your business!? Never mind them, and another thing, I for one do not think that what you're doing is perverted. As you said, old habits are hard to break... Relax... Take some Niquil, or Rozerem, Ambien/AmbienCr, Prozac, or that thingy with a butterfly. Sorry, didn't mean to be sarcastic there.

I see nothing wrong with it. Your neighbors need to mind their own business and if they continue to spread rumors go talk to them about it. If they tell you they find it gross then tell them you find it gross that they don't have a life and continue to try and live their life through yours! I hate nosy neighbors

It's hard to say without knowing more, but generally it's not recommended. Stick with putting your arm around their shoulders.
