Iran is a huge threat and the more we ignore it the worse it'll get!! I was shocked that he was allowed in the U.S. let alone allowed to speak at a University!!! Why are wicked men allowed to spew forth foolishness? Especially ones that want to follow in the steps of Hitler!!! What a disgrace!!

By International Treaty signed in 1946 and ratified by the US Senate any world leader may come to the country that hosts the UN to address the UN we couldn't stop him, or Castro if we wanted to.
He made his speech's in New York at the invitation of the Private Institutions that he spoke at. Most of the world is laughing at him over his statement about homosexuals in Iran.
While the US has religious freedom Iran doesn't and makes other religions pay a tax to believe.
While Amadinajad (sic) is a bit bellicose he is not that well respected, in Iran he is as approved rating as high as George Bush has in this country, but when he is attacked Iranians rally around him as we would if someone attacked our leader.
The President of Iran haas as much power as say the Speaker of the House here in the US. The Speakers can say allot but they don't make policy, That is now , as of this last week. in the hands of a moderate relgious leader who has said he wants to have better relations with the US.
As to the Nuclear threat the Iranians have the right to built Nuclear Reactor for the Peaceful use of Atomic Power. They are a signator of the Test Ban Treaty of 1968. We are against the harder job of Iran Building a bomb. Which they would not sell to bin Ladin because Osama bin Ladin is a Sunni and Iranians are a Shiite Nation they are "mortal " enemies even against the US. When the US went into Afghanistan the Iranians closed their boders to escaping Taliban fighters and returned the ones they caught the the coalilition forces in Afghanistan even US Forces. As for their wanting a bomd I think that we may want to do what this country does so well in it's history and so terribly now taalk to the Iranians and give them the benifit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
Remember Peace is Partiotic.

I do think a mountain of trouble is brewing in Iran, without a doubt.
The reason, though, that we let him in a limited are of NY is that we, as Americans, have freedom of speech. That is one thing that makes us different from other countries. He was actually invited by the University to speak, something that has gotten many American angry, yet it is allowed because of the freedoms in this country.
Now I think he stood up there and lied about much and he probably is making money off it, but he would say it somewhere else and it would get out anyway. He can't say we don't stand by our freedoms.
I am interested to see if any from the University take him up on his invitation to visit the Universities in Iran. I personally wouldn't trust him, but it should be interesting.

We couldn't legally not give him a visa because he is a representative of Iran in the United Nations, which is housed in New York, but not technically American soil. He was required to be there for the annual meeting. It's also just bad form to not issue a foreign diplomat a visa--especially if the country has an embassy. PR disaster in the making.
Honestly, the most press he is getting is with the gay comment, and that's mostly mocking.

I think the fact of allowing him in to speak at the university sent a powerful message out. Much more powerful than the one Iran's president made. Actions speak louder than words.
I agree with your view on Iran, but I think this time the USA and Columbia University made the right decision.

it happened because america is not yet quite as fascist as iran is.
ahmedinejad is a sideshow, he has little real power in iran. if the mullahs want nukes, well who could blame them for that? (blame them for being totalitarian theocrats, if anything). any fool can see that the reason iraq was invaded and not north korea is that they had oil and no nukes. iran doesn't want to be next. it seems to me that the best way to ensure that iran doesn't get nukes is to stop threatening to invade them for no good reason.

Because above all we believe that people have the right to say what they like regardless of who might be offended by it.
It is not our responsibility to say how someone else should run their country. No matter how much we disagree with it.
