Because it is just that...a settlement. In return for the money offered you will be saying that you agree to this compensation and that you will not have any legal ground to sue or ask for more money. They recognize that their client was negligent and that you have a good case on your hands to get more out of them possibly. If it is not your intention to sue, take your attorney or agent with you to look at the papers. If you agree then you can sign. If it's not good enough, then sue.

Congrats on being one of the few people who doesn't want to jack an insurance company just because they were in an accident!
I'm so glad everyone is ok. Just by going to the ER, you are considered a "bodily injury" case to Allstate. You are entitled to have all your med bills resulting from the loss paid for as well as pain and suffering for the inconvenience. There really isn't a way to place a price on this.
The nurse is correct, don't be hasty to take a couple of bucks from them-especially since you're ok but the baby is on it's way. In all likelihood everything will be totally fine...but if you take the money they will make you sign a waiver of additional liability which means if anything further should result they are not responsible.
Wait until the baby is born. If everything is ok, take whatever you feel is adequate compensation. Don't bother with a lawyer unless you want to pay them 1/3 of the settlement...
I love this question. It makes me feel like there are honest people out there (YOU)!

If they pay your bill and give you a cash settlement it closes the case right then and there. Once the case is closed you can not come back at a later date and time and say this is wrong that is wrong or sue them for anything else. When dealing with pregnant woman, anything can go wrong during the pregnancy. You could have the baby prematurely even if it wasn't the fault of the car accident, but you could say it was. There are just too many things that could go wrong in 9 months, things that don't show up right away, and they want their name off of a possible problem. My girlfriends umbilical cord broke away from the baby after an accident in a car weeks later. Lucky for her she was in the hospital and things worked out okay. But, if she had settled before this happened she would have been SOL.

I was invovled in an accident while 9 mos pregnant. At the time I was fine, after delivering the baby it was found that I had a slightly fractured tailbone (I had a c-section, no pushing occured). But I couldn't tell if the back pain was from the accident or being pregnant. So the insurance co wants to make sure you are covered.
Now, regardless of the outcome, they MUST pay for your ER visit. Also, if you settle now, you can come back a year from now and sue (there is a time frame you can file a claim w/in, usually a min of one year).
I'm really glad you went to the ER though, better safe than sorry.

you were right to go to the ER to be checked out; it also most likely made you less stressed out knowing your baby is ok
when someone is pregnant, there is a concern that after the baby is born, something can go wrong;
all companies will pay for the ER and addtl settlement for a pregnant mother; that is only common sense;
my suggestion is to hold off settling with them until your baby is born; it is rare that something can happen due to this accident; but then after birth, you can breathe a sigh of relief;
they will most likely not pay for your ER bill now and settle with you for a cash settlement later; it is usually done hand in hand; so if you settle now and something goes wrong later, you cant come back and ask for more; your claim will be closed;
good luck and healthy baby

Don't take the money! Let them pay the ER bill, and pay to repair your car, but wait until you have your baby before making any other settlement. Unless you talk to a lawyer and he/she says it's ok. You might be waiving any future rights to claims if you take a settlement now. (I'm very curious who this insurance company is... there are some crooked ones out there)

They are just covering their butts.
Wait until baby is born, and starts developing, etc. They are very well protected in there, but there is always a chance.
Keep alert you don't have any strange aches or pains in meantime.
Don't sign ANYTHING until that baby is ok! Unless it is only for car repairs - talk with your insurance company first.

To avoid any future liability if something unseen has happened to you or your baby. If you settle now that's it. No matter what may happen in the future.
