Rarely do I see people debating Pauls meaning on something, or seeking the original Greek on a verse, or comparing the Bible and the Koran about Abraham, even discussing similarities of Buddhists Nirvana to a Muslim's heaven, etc. Why are we not discussing religion? But instead merely attacking the fact people have other beliefs that are different from our own? Please really think about this question. Gods peace to all.

I've had limited success, at getting serious answers, for serious questions. But, I do get answers. This is an example, of the type of question you're asking about, and the answers that you can expect;

Do people think that worship, is strictly an affair of Church, or organized religion? In my mind, I see people worshiping governments, their careers, other people, science, and even spirituality itself.

How many people die in the name of patriotism? How many mothers sacrifice their unborn children for the sake of career? How many teens idolize flakes with a good singing voice? How many students ignore the abomination of nuclear destruction, and venerate the creator's of that science?

Are these the issues, that you are wanting to discuss? Then ask the questions...

Hello,

Because they work!

Certainly the ad hominem arguments are classed as illogical or invalid but even in courts and political debates, they seem to be a favorite tactic that works by getting everyone's attention away from the main issues.

Cheers,

I don't know what circles you hang out in, but people do actually discuss religion in the manner you are speaking. The only way to learn is by studying, discussing, and debating.

There is only one universal truth out there, but you have to find it and be open to it when it is revealed. God Bless.

Most people here do not attack just because a belief is different.Either 1) they are a believer who cannot defend their baseless belief, or 2) they are a non-believer well aware of the blatant, indefensible falsehood of most religious belief. Telling someone there belief is wrong (as long as you give credible evidence for why) is not attack, it is education.

As for Paul, he was a classic Jerk. Have you read the Epistles? Practically everything he wrote about Jesus was copy from Mithra.

I think it's because we don't know enough about each other's religions to have these conversations. I agree with you that they would be much more informative than what goes on now.

Frankly the majority of 'Christians' on this site wouldn't know Thomas Aquinas from their elbows but it doesn't stop them pontificating....

same for most of the religious groups.

I think you'll find that there are pleanty of serious forums for philosophical discussion - I come here to get a street check!

The answer should be pretty obvious if you've taken a good look at the people answering these questions.

I believe ad hominems are just one of many ILLOGICAL arguments used due to lazy minds and cold hearts.
