it depends on the squad

at my highschool - no
they were never together
most of them sat down in the middle of the game
all they would do really is eat and drink pop
and they only practiced like once a week
so no they were not participating in a sport

but the schools you see on tv compititions
and like bring it on
and the dalas cowboys and such
THEY ARE A SPORT

just like dance team
at my school
(i was the captain for two years)
we brought home more trphies in one competing season then every sports team put together since the early 80s
we worked out butts off
we were a sport
more then any other sport in the school

No, it's not a sport. It's more of an athletic art. I feel the same way about figure skating and the like. To me a sport is about direct, quantifiable competition. At the end of the game you know for sure who won, the score determines that. An athletic art requires judges to decide who won.
