My husband is from Bangladesh so I would prefer to learn Bangladeshi Bengali. I know that Indian Bengali is too proper for bangaldesh....plus if anyone knows chittagonian that would be even better as all my IN Laws live in Chittagong. I would love to be able to pass this language on to my sons....AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ASK WHY DOESN'T MY HUSBAND JUST TEACT ME...he's way to busy working full time and then running a business from home. I work from home as well so I thought it would be easier just to have a tutor...I know the basics as I was in Bangladesh for 3 months from feb2007-may2007. Thank you again if you can help!!!!

If you are in USA and want to learn Bangladeshi-Bangla, with specialization in Chittagonian accent, I would suggest that you may advertise your need in local daily newspapers over there in USA. Chances are, you may find somebody from Chittagong living nearby your city who can be of help to you.

If you were to learn only Bangladeshi-Bangla then it would have been a bit easier since Indian Bangla could have been handy for use though they do speak pure-form of Bangla those we can find in literature.

I lived and worked briefly in Chittagong in 1976 and 1986 on two occasions, but can tell you that I could hardly pick up a few words these people from Chittagong speak, and those are also not very sober words, rather people in there use those slang on routine basis in their conversations (lol).

Chittagonian and Sylheti Bangla are quite different than what average Bangladeshi can understand from the Bangla as spoken in other four divisions of Bangladesh, like Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal.

I lived and worked in Sylhet too in 1974-75 and my attempt to learn Sylheti was also as successful as that of Chittagonian language. This is in no way to discourage you from learning Chittagonian but to make you mentally prepared that you may be asking to learn Persian and then asking if Turkish language can also be learned simultaneously.

Btw, I lived in Iran and their language is just as lucid as Bangla in compare to Turkish spoken in Iran which is akin to Chittagonian language on difficulty to learn scale!

Hi, not sure if you are still looking to learn Bengali. I am a Bengali language instructor in all Bengali dialects (Sylheti, Chittagongi, Standard Bangla, and Culcatta Bangla) and I am New York based with students all across the US whom I tutor via Skype, and in person when they visit NYC. If you are interested, please reply and I can help. I tutor both adults and children. My clients range from business and government officials heading out to Bangladesh to private citizens who are learning Bengali for personal reasons.

Thanks!
