is it legal for a driver with a permit to drive with a 18 year old or do they have to be 21 years old?

In Kentucky and most other states, permit holders must drive with a licensed driver over 21 years old accompanying them in the front passenger seat.

If you can post the state in which you wish to drive in, then I can give you a more definite answer.

Kansas is one of the few States where the licensed driver accompanying a permit holder only needs to be 18 or older. Most are 21 and some are 25. I included the link for this.

Each state sets its own rules. Where I live, the other driver has to be over 21.
